Amen sister!
Anyone interested in a Round Robbin?
Tami,
I wish I would have thought that way. LOL I was really pleased to get a few new ones. It was hard deciding on what to take though. This stinking wasp sting is not better. My husband is thinking he needs to take me to the hospital. LOL
Tami
Tami I have been stung by a couple of wasp this last year. Once on my finger and once on the wrist. Both times my hand swelled up super bad, turned red and itched horribly. It took about 5 days for the swelling to go down and to stop itching. I asked the pharmicist what to do and he picked me out some hydrocortison sp. cream and I think it was benadryl or something like that. It did work it just took awhile. The itch drove me crazy... I feel your pain girl, my arm was so swollen you couldn't see any wrinkles in the top of my hands, come to think of it my wrist completly disappeard. Hang in there....
Oops Joanne I didn't want you to read that, LOL I promise I will leave you something :)
Tami, I hope there is nothing left in the box that I put in, by the time it gets back to me! If there are any that I already have I am gifting them to another forum member who didn't get in on the RR due to a small collection. Eithere way we all win :~)
anyway Tami, your greenhouse must be getting MUCH too full to add any new hoyas......hahahahahah~! Like that's gonna' happen! You can allways add on to the greenhouse! -God bless,-joanne

Joanne,
What a generous and kind person you are.
I just had to say that :)
Gabi
Gabi, I just want on everyone's good side so when you all go on vacation I can offer to plant sit! I will take really good care of the plants you send me and my nice gal immage will make you all believe that you'll get more than a cutting back :~) Look into my eyes...trust me...then hahaha all the way to the green house!
Thanks Gabi. God bless you and yours, -joanne
LOL....well you sure fooled me :P
Does that mean I get to plant sit for ya'? :~)
Tami,
A friend of mine that teaches homeopathy told me that the Ledum 30 I was taking was too weak. She told me to take 200 and put arnica on topically. The swelling is down today and the itching is gone. Its just a little hard around the sting area. I'm so glad it has done better. It was itching like crazy and the more I scratched the redder and more swollen it got. (now that really sounded like a hick) LOL
Anyway this Round Robin thing has been fun. I hope everybody gets at least a few new ones out of it. I thank y'all for letting me participate. And Joanne for doing all the hard work and putting in her hoyas to start us off.
Carol, You must have been talking about TamiF and her greenhouse. I still have loads of room in my new one. :-)
Tami
Sadly, the round robin did not land on my doorstep today. :(
I'd say it will be waiting Monday when I get home from work and that will give me something to look forward to! I can't wait to dig through the treasures from 2 great ladies!
I'm sorry to hear about the bee sting, Tami. I hope it has eased up.
Stay tuned for the second episode of "As the Hoyas Fly."
Mel
Well dang it anyway. I kind of figured it wouldn't make it to you befor the weekend, mine never make it to you in three days. Well if nothing else it will get your work week off to a great start.
Tami, I just love all those homeopathy remedies. In fact, I go to a homeopathic Dr. It's amazing all the natural remedies that are out there instead of taking a bunch of drugs. Your GH is wonderful, did you just get it put up? Woo Hoo and you have lots of room !! Have fun stuffing it full of plants.
Of course you can plantsit, Joanne :P
But I doubt you'll find anything here that you don't already have! Make sure you sneak in a pair of scissors when you come, cause you know I'll be hidin' mine! No, you'd have open access to take cuttings of whatever you'd like :)
Gabi
Did you guys and gals arrange the shipping list in order of geographic proximity to one another or was it just random? If it wasn't done this time around, it can really help these things (round robbins and the like) move along if you're not shipping back and forth across the states but rather work from one coast to the other. I'm just trying to provide a helpful tidbit, not criticizing, so please don't read this any other way than as a fellow hobbyist trying to help. Heck, I don't even know, maybe you already did it this way.
I wish I could have participated but I opted not to this time around. I'm working 6 days a week now trying to save up some money for my very own "Mullettman cutting" which is expected to arrive in about 6 months. Hoyas are not in the budget for me until next year I'm afraid, and I'm limited on the plants I have which are large enough to cut and trade. Am I allowed to put Hoyas on a baby registry? LOL
I hope you all enjoy this round robbin. And we must get some pictures up here ASAP. I know you're not supposed to say who traded what, but I'm positive it's not against the rules to just show your bounty.
Take care,
-Andrew
Mel,
I'm so sorry it didn't get to you Saturday. Well you should get it Monday. You had to be disappointed though.
TamiF, Yes I too am in to Homeopathy. I don't remember what I did before I used it. My brother in law's dog used to get sick in the car. I gave it some motion sickness remedy I had for my granddaughter. The dog has not been car sick since. Just one great thing that worked. LOL
The greenhouse we put up last November. It started raining and the ends are still not finished. Its so tall that we have to put the ladder in the bed of my husbands 4x4 raised pickup to reach the top and we couldn't get it back there. We had an early freeze and the tips on the Plumerias that were to go in it got froze and we just bare rooted them and put them in the shop for the Winter. We still need to finish it. When we get back from vacation we hope to get it ready for plants this Fall. I have another greenhouse that's 10 x 20 and a sunroom that's 10 x 16. I keep my hoyas in the sunroom during the Winter.
Tami
Andrew, I'm ashamed to say I did not set the list up by geographic proximity. I didn't even thing about it until after the fact. I used the 'who sent me dmail first' way. I did adjust for 3 people who wanted to play but would be out of town at specific times. I didn't want anyone who wanted to play to miss out.
CONGRATS on the upcoming baby. Will it be a H. andrewii? or a H. mullettmanii? Ha! I think it perfectly acceptable to put hoyas on a baby shower list! Keep us posted!
God bless, -joanne
The robin landed in Tennessee and the fabulous box was waiting on me when I got home from work. What a treat for a manic Monday! I had all the beautiful and healthy Hoyas laid out on the bar in the kitchen and it was a tough decision! I kept:
H. obscura (lost my smaller leaf one a while back)
H. cumingiana (small leaf that I also lost)
H. macgillivrayi "Langly Creek"
H. davidcummingii
H. imperialis
H. sp. DMC56556
Joanne and Tami, you are both awesome! I could not be more pleased. Everything looked great and there are some really cool plants and cuttings in that box.
I took 6 and put back 11 of which 4 are rooted and 7 are cuttings. I think I counted 25 different species as I placed them back in the box, made a mad dash for the post office ( the last pick up is at 7 pm), and the friendly little robin is on it's way to Karen.
I can't wait to hear what everyone ends up with. As Tami said, going through the box was fun! A round of applause and many, many thanks to Joanne for getting this Robin off the ground.
Mel
YEA Mel! I'm so excited you'd think it was me who got the box today! I love those bottles you are using. Be on the lookout horsewoman, your up next! God bless all! -joanne
Wow Mel those are really cute bottles, where did you find them? Congrats on your new additions!
Blessings,
Awanda
Thanks Awanda! It was a ton of fun. You better play with us when we do the next Robin.
I got the bottles at Target several years ago. I fear I have a bottle collecting problem too.
I hear you, Joanne. Now I am excited for Karen!
OH< > WOW, I am trying to wait patiently,, right ,,,thinking of how I can cut my work schedule down so Wed. I might be home if the box comes! LOL. That is incredible, 25 different species!!
Mel, your additions look wonderful. I like the bottles. I bet in no time you are going to be potting up some plants.
Thank you, Joanne for organizing this. It is a lot of fun hearing what everyone is getting.
It is so fun watching and waiting.......! Joanne, you are awesome for putting this together! Nice score, Mel!!
Karen
Heck, I'm having fun too and I didn't even participate (kicking myself for that now).
Joanne, you're a brave soul for undertaking this RR. I've always marveled at the organizational skills of those who begin CoOps, round robbins, and the area specific plant swaps / meet & greets. So many people are able to expand their collections and obtain plants they otherwise wouldn't have because of these fantastic trading methods.
Have fun with this and keep posting those pictures so I can enjoy as well.
Me too, MM...having a vicarious blast!!!
Can you put plants in that have already been taken out by someone else?
Jeri
Very nice selection Mel. Glad to hear they are all traveling well.
Jeri, yes you can put a repeat hoya cutting in the box, as long as there is not one in the box currently.
Horsewomen, don't you feel a cold comming on, back ache, migraine? Sounds like you may need to take a sick day :) I'll call in for ya..
Thanks Tami, I thought that but wanted to make sure before I messed this up.
Jeri
Mel,
I'm glad you got the box and found several to keep. This has been fun.
Tami
Unfortunately, due to our record hot temperatures, I regretfully (VERY regretfully) think I'd better drop out.
I just don't want to risk having all those lovely hoya babies killed by sitting around in hot postal trucks.
Can horsewoman just cross my name off the list and remove my sticker, and just send the box on to picabo?
I surely hate to miss out on the goodies, but I don't want to risk everybody's cuttings just because I want more hoyas.
Maybe another time when our weather here is not being so difficult.
Looking forward to seeing what everybody gets!
Sharon
Sharon how hot are your temps? We are in the high 80's low 90's during the day. I understand your concern and consideration for the hoya's and everyone, but I was receiving hoya's all summer long and the temp was sitting above 100. In fact Mel sent me out 2 full boxes of cuttings that traveled from her high temps of 100 into our high temps of 100, they all traveled very well and have already rooted. I received one from Paul Shirley as well, I was a little concerned as I remember it was 105 that day, but they all looked great too. You may want to reconsider, but if you don't we sure understand.
104-105-106 etc.....
You really think it wouldn't kill them?
I have visions of receiving...(or after they are sent on becoming) total mush...
I know there are some valuable hoyas in there (well, to me they are ALL valuable) and I don't want to be the cause of them dying...
What do you other guys think???
I haven't had experience with mailed hoyas in the heat
I once received a rosebush thru the mail that was totally white with all sorts of aerial roots that were white also.
It lived, but itn surely looked bad when I got it...
I was hoping to get some curtisii, serpens, pubicalyx...I don't really yearn for the unusual ones...
Oh dear, oh dear, what to do???
GUYS......................help me decide here....
I just don't KNOW!!!!
H*E*L*P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sharon, all in a dither and getting panicky..........
Edited to say I would be home when the box arrived...
(Can you tell I really really want you to say go for it????)

Sharon,
I say go for it! Although It is so hard for me to envision that kind of heat; here in Vermont this week highs are in the mid 60s and lows are in the mid 40s. If you are that concerned about the heat right now in AZ, you could ask to get moved further back on the list, but in my opinion you should still participate in the RR.
Doug
Sharon,
I think you should ask Awanda since she lives in AZ and ships plants from there. Maybe Dmail her? I don't know! Tough call. I see what your dilemma is. Oh, I just noticed that you wrote that you will be home when the box arrives...in that case, I think you should be fine!
Gabi
Please don't drop out. You can move your name down the list a bit and see if temps cool off a bit?
Okay, I'll go for it!
Hopefully, the babies won't be mush.
Sorry to be such a worrywart...just a tad scary to think what MIGHT happen...
I tend to worry a lot about things tho....and most of 'em never happen.
=0)
If I can be moved a ways down the list it would be greatly appreciated!!!
S.
Sharon,
Since you want to be moved down the list, maybe it would be a good idea to put you either before or after TamiF, since she's in AZ too. Not sure if that would make a difference, but Tami is pretty far down the list (which seems to be what you want?) and it just makes sense geographically. Maybe Dmail Joanne and see what she thinks about it. Since she is the one that is organizing this, I'd ask her about being moved on the list and whatnot.
Glad you decided to rejoin :)
Gabi
Thanks Gab....I d-mailed Joanne and Horsewoman both, to see if I could be moved.
Maybe, just maybe the weather will cool off, altho the weatherman keeps saying by Halloween.
Pooh!
I'm ready for some coolness NOW!!!
=0)
Sharon
sharon - i have been receiving and send plants all summer. no worries mate! LOL i have them mark PERISHABLE and FRAGILE on the box. hmmm...i wonder if that helps. one would think that it must to some degree. i'll be sending some rooted hoyas to socal in a week or two.
Okay, Detrick, if you say so....
Guess I'm just chicken!!!
=0)
Ok All, I edited the post with the RR mailing order. I put 2manyplants next to TamiF so the shipping would go quicker.
I do not want to make anymore changes if possible. I tend to want to make everyone happy and I end up making only a few happy and myself crazy. I hope you understand.
horsewoman, you are up next! Can't wait to see what you take :~)
-God bless, -joanne
Not that I'm anxious or anything but hey, moving Sharon puts the Robin one person closer to me! Good job Joanne! :))))
