I'm sorry, another question. When the flowers are all gone on a stem, am I supposed to cut that off or I think it is called dead head them or not.
Pentas again
Often deadheading will encourage the plant to continue blooming, but it's optional and up to you.
Karen
Plants like Petunias are one season only plants (Annuals) so their sole purpose is to germinate, flower, set and scatter their seeds for survival, as for gardeners, we want them to flower for the whole season not just the once, so we have to deadhead the flowers to trick the plants into thinking it needs to grow more flowers to make seeds, so yes, you need to deadhead them or they will get too week from production of seed heads, but if you miss doing this, say for a week, then the next flowers will maybe look smaller/ weaker etc, but once you nip off these flower heads, by the following week, new flowers will come, after about September, the flowers will naturally slow down as the plant has completed its one season cycle and stop flowering as much, eventualy it will just give up unless you have a particular warm climate and they can be kept going for longer, also they need feeding as all the work they do flowering means they grow extra roots and therefore use up a lot of the nutrients within the soil, so we add some to help. Good luck, Weenel.
