I'm growing black beans and the bush is loaded with pods. How do I tell when they are ready to be picked? Should the beans be black all the way through or do they dry black? I obviously know very little about this subject so any info anyone can provide would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Black Beans, anyone?
I don't know, but I'm sure someone at the vegetable forum knows.
Are you planning on saving them dried? If so, let the pods dry on the bush. Pick, shell, and store.

When the pods are dry they are paper thin, tan, and very easy to open. The beans will be black when picked.
Hi I'm brand new to the forum, came here due to searching for black bean info.
I'm in Indiana (Tippecanoe Co area) and I'm wondering if growing black beans here is easy and if so if someone has recommendations for good insect resistant varieties that can be done without anything but water, good dirt, maybe a little singing to, and sunshine?
