Plant ID #8

League City, TX

This one recently flopped over and needs to be staked (really soft ground from all the rain). It has magenta colored blooms and the trunk (stem?) is almost the same color as the blooms.

Might be Mirabilis jalapa (4 o'clocks) but it's hard to say for sure without seeing a picture of the flowers when they're open

I agree. It sure looks a four o'clock. I'm told that they will come back next year from a tuber formed underground, so don't pull it up, just cut it off when it starts to die back.

I think you guys are right.

I happened to walk by this plant yesterday evening, and the blooms were open, and it smelled heavenly! Too bad it's by the trashcans! We never go on that side of the house unless we're taking out the garbage!
