Flowers are starting to wind down here but I still have a few late bloomers.
Please share your as a zone or 2 warmer can make a big difference.

What's Blooming? # 12
Thanks Celeste. Wouldn't that make it a 'Quadruple Delight'??
I take it China is north of South China.
correct....your good!
So is the long way around to Sweden the scenic route? Btw do they still turn the road signs around to screw up the tourists? We used to go up to Swan Island and the sign for the ferry almost always was pointing the wrong way. LOL.
You take the high road
and I'll take the low road
and I'll be in Norway before you.
Just doesn't ring the same bell as Scotland.
Celeste,
I'm sending you seeds for the pink balloon :)
Now later??
Al - I wonder if the Belle of Barmera knows Bahama Mama. They seem to be a lot alike. I'll try for a picture tomorrow.
Enjoyed all the pics back on #11 - Shasta is beautiful and I didn't realized there were so many varieties of columbines. I have to get some more Columbines next year. Al - does Dog have a name or do you call him "Dog"? I knew someone who had a dog named "Bear" and it was a good name for him. I was taking an ice cream cake to this friend's camp cause he had a church youth group sleep over there. No one was around and "Bear" would not let me in the cabin to put the ice cream cake in the freezer!! LOL What a mess!! Eleanor
p.s. I loved all the pics on the new thread also.
pixie & al.... wonderful shots
ok now what the heck i am doing wrong with the double white daturas.... i got them in a seed swap.... they look more yellow than white.... they are staying the color of the blooms before they open... what gives ... kassia yours are beatuiful
I like your pink balloon flower Celeste. I have the 'blue' one. Sometimes it looks purple. The butterflies are busy by me too. I finally have a bud on my Moon Vine. I just went out to see if it was open, but alas, nothing yet
Hi all,
Boy did I have a strange weekend. I had a kidney stone on Sat. and spent most of the day at the hospital. I was fine as soon as they gave me the IV ibuprofen, had guests overnite, went out to dinner, and went hiking today. All that pain seems so unreal (actually worse than childbirth. I'm sure some of you know!
So here are some of today's pics. The first is Olallie Keith.
Enjoyed all of the colorful blooms this morning! Eleanor
Al - I like your 'Flight of the Bumblebee'
Boojum. Nice pics. A hike in the woods sounds nice. I love the quiet of nature.
I think we're on this one, can't be easy being your age.
Looks great Anita.
Quite excited about this. I am one of those people who throws seed down and then forgets where and what I planted. Not an organized gardener at all. I have had a stand of Balloon Plant seedlings that I planted last year that have finally began to bloom. Most of them have been the plain white balloons.....BUT......2 of them look like this :)
First year that I grow these and I am simply LOVING them :) They have been blooming non stop for weeks now and I would say this might be their peak. The ants seem to love them for whatever reason. I don't see any "farming" going on and they don't seem to be hurting the plant any so I let them wander and pollinate. I plan to do large pots of these next year and separate the colors so that I can coordinate other annuals when I do my window boxes :) Garden Balsam.
Your balloon flower is beautiful and reminds me of the June blooming 'Splish Splash' geranium - very similar coloring. Amazing red poppy! The Balsam does self-seed with wild abandon so you'll always have them.
Kim that balloon flower is amazing, very unique!! I like Poppies too but wish they would last longer also. I planted some from seed this spring and put them in the ground at different times. I had poppies in June, July and August that way.
Garden Balsam is lovely!!! I have never grown it before and now I need to!!
Pirl and Pixie my friends :)
I was going to let the "splashed" balloon go to seed but since it's so late in the season I have decided that I think rather than letting them go to seed (I got 2 "splashed" seedlings out of 10) I will transplant them so that next year they will be stronger and I will have plenty of seeds to share.
Pirl, I'm not sure the Balsam will self sow in zone 5. So, I plan to bring them in and grow them on as houseplants until I can gather every single seed they have to offer as I don't want to lose them.
Pixie, you are more than welcome to some of the seeds. The one thing that I noticed with it is that they LOVE water so I would recommend putting in a large pot that would be watered frequently. I plan to plant some of the salmon colored ones in a pot with my Salvia "Coral Nymph" next year as they look so cute next to one another.
Already planning my "pot plantings" for next year.....obsessed I tell ya *lol*
