potted milkweed?

I live in fort lauderdale, Fl, and last week I potted a three or four feet tall milkweed. I am not sure how much watering to do. Also, some of the leaves are starting to turn yellow; does that mean they are getting to much water? Also, they have not shown any signs of flowering; any advice on encouraging some flowers? thanks for the help.
