my husband says it's most likely squirrels helping themselves to my silver queen, if it was a raccoon the stalk would be broken down. we have up rabbit fence, but i don't know of any way to keep squirrels out of a garden. any suggestions???

another pic, i thought at first it was birds, never thinking squirrels would bother it since there are tons and tons of acorns and every other kind of nut in our woods. i guess birds wouldn't actually peel back the husk though, huh? LOL

Squirrels can be very bad on corn, particularly it you let get to advanced mild stage. Once they discover it they are hard to deter, You might try a pepper spray on the husks and remove all the damaged ears. The only other deterant that I am aware of is a pellet rifle.

My garden would not have survived with squirrels. I got a "Have a Hart" cage, and trap them, and relocate them in a national forest 9 miles away.

it's very rural here, so even if i did that, another family would take their place before next year's harvest was ready. i'm partial to the pellet gun idea, but not sure it's worth the expense to go buy one :p

I live in a rural area, too. The first year I trapped about 9, the next year a less, then the following year about 20 because the river level raised. Then this year about 4.

Peanut butter and cantaloupe worked best. It could be a racoon. They make large traps, too.
