Critter Damage Control Advice

Hi
I was exploring the right kind of deterrent for deer/rabbits etc., trying to make an informed decision since the products are so expensive.

I came across this site --I think it is good. At least it gives information about what should go into the decision making...edible vs inedible.... winter spray needs vs summer.. and finally the types of repellents pros and cons. Here it is:

BTW, if you follow the above link, you WILL NOT be able to click back to this site. So be warned, and open it in a separate window if you can.

Hill-Wilhelm furry pest repellant method:

Works for deer and some rodents, but not mice!
Also, more effective and practical in the back woods than in the city.

1. Get some muslin tea bags.

2. Go to your hair stylist, and get some human hair leftovers.

3. Put them in bags, and hang them around the fence of your property. If you hang them about waist high, and at the top of your fence, you keep out deer. If you hang them lower still at grass level, it works with rabbits.

4.Replace every time it rains. Make more than you need, and keep them in a bag. Get new batches periodically so the human scent is fresh.

5. Walk your dog around your garden and have him/her do her business around the perimeter of the garden. This works pretty well for keeping rabbits out. Only works if you do it regularly.

6. If you do see deer near your garden: shoot them! ;-)

Doesn't work for raccoons. Only pepper oil, traps and firearms work on raccoons. Or maybe they just think of those things as a challenge.

Hi
I have no problem using that link and keeping Davesgarden running. All I have to do is slide the new window (deerrepellent) down and the thread is right there. No problem.
