Eyeballs

I can't figure it out. What do the little eyeballs mean.....

Threads you are 'watching' would be my guess.

Actually, no, I just figured out where you were and clicked on that PF page. The eyes are next to the notation that this plant is available from certain vendors and is on several want lists but why the eyes show where you have them I don't know because it doesn't look like that for me. Guess we need Terry or someone to explain that one.

I've never seen them...how cute is that?! I want some! Actually, I've been trying to figure out how some people get happy faces and tiny hearts and such like in their posts...have that ability on other sites, but not here.

Sue - I hope you won't be offended but that made me laugh out loud. I'm not watching any of the dahlia cultivars so that can't be it.

Island - I've seen other sites with those little smiley's but I'm kinda glad DG doesn't have them - sometimes people get carried away with them.

I'm sure the little eyeballs mean something but I'm not sure what.

You also see them here and this makes sense.

But then what to the litte green stars mean.....

(see the first picture)

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Eyeballs mean that there is a listed vendor for this plant. The green star means that the majority of comments are positive (i.e. a recommended plant)

Ahh HA!

Thanks Dill.

Islandshari, if you have a PC it is easy to make those little hearts and stars and such. (It's probably easy on a Mac, too, but I don't know how to do it. :-) ) Just go to Character Map (in the "Start" menu, click on "All Prgrams" > Accessories > and then System Tools). It should pop open a little window with all the characters available for all the of the fonts you have on your computer. If you scroll down the first window (mine automatically opens in Arial), you'll find all sorts of fun symbols. You can copy them there (click on a symbol, hit "select" and then hit "copy") and then paste them here. ☺♥☼♫◊♪╔╗▒►Ω‼

You can also go to START > RUN, type charmap and hit enter. :)

got2Bgreen, LOL, not offended at all, I knew as soon as I wrote it that you couldn't be watching a PF.
So now my question is, where is that page because I went by way of PF and it's different.

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

This might be a 'round-about' way to get there but this is exactly how I got to that page.

Got to the plantfiles page for Cebu dahlia
click on Dahlia

here is a pic of where to click

For those little characters .... the way I do it is hold down the Alt key and type a series of numbers then release the Alt key and the character appears. Experiment.! Ü
alt 3 = ♥
alt 666 = Ü
alt 155 = ¢
alt 15 = ☼
alt 1 = ☺
and so on.

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

it's not working for me- is there a trick?

I discovered that I have to use the number pad at the right of the keyboard for them to work. Maybe that will help you, Hyblaean. :o)

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

۞ Hey that's easy! Thanks! I found the Character Map on Accessories, Systems Tools.

Once you have the screen of Characters all you do is click on the one you want, at the bottom of the box click select then copy.

Then place your arrow where you would normally type here, right click next to the flashing line, slide down and click on paste just as you would copy and paste anything.

Hey presto!

Or do your select and you don't even have to click the Copy, just place your curser where you want to paste and just hit Ctrl V to paste.
Crtl C is Copy, Ctrl V is Paste by the way and I use this for all copy and pasting.

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

☺it does work with the number pad...yeah!!! Thanks RainGazer! that is so much easier than digging out the character map- try it Wallaby1 & Calif_Sue

I do better with the character map than remembering all the numbers. LOL

This is cool, wish I could find a little bat...cause I'm told I'm kinda batty :))

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I have used the number pad too but my memory is so bad, I forget what numbers go with what character since I don't use it often enough so the map is easier for me.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Bgreen....is this what you meant by carried away?? LOL

Thanks everyone!

Laugh :D

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

I went to www.usefulshortcuts.com and printed the 'Alt Codes Reference Sheet'. It will remain next to my computer. Very useful and many thanks to Marilyn for the link, to the link, that got me there.

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

LOL

No this isn't what I meant by carried away. The ones that bug me are the ones that bounce all over, wink or turn different colors. Or when they appear in the signature box and there are 800 of them.....and there again with every post....and there again with every post.

§§§§♫§♫©§♫©¢i l§♫©¢ove you

Sorry, I was playing.

Kim, thanks for the info on the character map, which I didn't know existed but am now in love with. I also noticed another cute thing there. It's the on-screen keyboard, located under Ease of Access, just a little above System Tools. What a wonderful world we live in!

I read some time ago that the sites that furnish those crazy emoticoms (the jumping, arm waving, etc.) also put spyware on your computer when you import and use them? Is that still true? Harold

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Some of them might, but I'm sure there are some that don't.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Okay, I too have been playing with the char map....but as far as I know, I didn't do anything to explain why my DG screen is now huge! None of my other screens are, but all of a sudden this little message box is about half of my screeen. Anyone know why this might have happened, or how I can fix it?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Islandshari, while you were experimenting with the character map, an escape code caused your screen to become enlarged.

Changing the subject, there are some interesting symbols to be found in Webdings and Windings at the bottom of Microsoft Word's Font selections; changing the font size makes them easier to see. When one selects one of these options and types different keys, you'll find some useful symbols that can be copied and pasted into another Word document. They don't work here, however.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Patp - any idea how to fix it?

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Got it figured out...nevermind...blushing in mortification....

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I don't know the escape code to restore the screen to the smaller size but I'd try closing Davesgarden then reopening it. If that doesn't work, rebooting (shutdown/restart) the computer should do the trick.

I found an old post on davesgarden that explains how to add bold, italics or underlining
at http://davesgarden.com/faq/forums/#131. I copied the file and pasted it into a document which I saved on my hard drive. I didn't see any reference to restoring the screen but if I find it I'll let you know.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Hahaha, what was the solution?

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Hold down ctrl and move the mouse wheel....doh! Good thing there are folks here to help me through these technical traumas!

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

...Or.....click on 'Page' in your tool bar.....then scroll down to click on 'Zoom'.....and choose '100%'.
