Morning Glories 2007 # 20

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Woo hoo! I have a few to share this morning.

I think this came from a seed packet that was labeled Double Sunrise Serenade. First bloom...

Frank, Congrats on your first flower. It`s very pretty.

Atenkley those are wild! I love those pink doubles.

beckygardener and patootie, Both lovely blooms. The extra petals make it worth getting out of bed in the morning for sure!

Well, here is another very strange one from a selected grow out. This is a single bud with a bunch of buds coming out of it! Check it out. I`m going to work with it and see what develops.

More later... Karen-05

Becky,
Your Bloom
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3898925
is a Feathered, but don't know the cultivar.
It looks to be a Bright Pink and is Very Pretty!

It isn't Sunrise Serenade.
SS looks like it was crossed with a Crimson Rambler because of the Red Star Pattern, like in Grow_Jo's photo here

Regarding Heian and Akatsuki/Hama...
It seems that some of the JMG's that are marketed by Takii and Sakata are the same except for the descriptive name used by the company > i.e., Takii uses 'Heian' (and often skips using the pronoun 'no' since most Japanese people know to mentally/ automatically add it in) and Sakata will use either 'Akatsuki' or 'Hama'...

I like these...

Fuji no Murasaki

Fuji no Murasaki >lavender-purple...
Sakata has started using this color in their advertisements for "Fuji no Murasaki"...

Yours seems to have a blizzard gene mixed into it...nice(!)

Joanne, missed your gorgeous bloom cause I don't hit re-load often enough.
Very nice. Love the Blue Ensign too.
Karen, very unusual. We'll be watching with great interest.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi Ron, Thank you. Here is one more of the Fuji No murasaki It is not suggestive of purple or lavender at all. It is more pink/rose toned in person.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Ron, Here is another from this morning. It is not lavender or purple but a pink/rose/mauve dusky color.

So you think it is different from Fuj No Murasaki? Doesn`t Murasaki mean purple? This one is far, far from being purple or lavender. It has a gorgeous frosted look about it too.

Paul says the picture makes it look purple but it really isn`t. I`ll take more with a lavender Fuji next to it for comparison later if they bloom at the same time.

Thanks again,

Karen-05

One more thing:

My blue one is definitely blue too and I can take a comparison shot with a dark purple one if I can find it as well.

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3895129

One way to ID when using pictures is to compare since colors can be a little off sometimes. I`ll try and do that little project soon.

Karen-05 - Yes...>murasaki is the Romanji for purple...
http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/vines/gal0723115619217.html?2
but the plants don't always come out that way and I've seen blue like you are experiencing on the bloom here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3895129
come out of packets of "Hama no Murasaki" direct from Japan as shown in the PlantFiles here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/80010/
and even though the blooms are not all purple >these type of blooms come out of the "Hama no Murasaki"...perhaps they shouldn't be called HNM,but they are a 'blue' variant that can come out of the HNM...believe it or not...

The photo here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3895136
does look lavender to me like the photo from Sakata's catalog, but if you say that the actual color is more like the photo that you posted here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/gardener2005_1188062331_570.jpg
then it may be something other than "Fuji no Murasaki"...likely a cross or sport of some type...

Beautiful!MG's Ronnie.

luvsgreatdanes-Ronnie , Wow, those are beautiful variations. On mine I saw some that were blue/blue and some that had a purplish tinge in the ray pattern similar to yours but these seemed to change by the day. I marked both the purplish tinged flower vine and the blue/blue vine and plan on gathering form both. I sent out the blue/blue seeds in the give away. I`m going to experiment with these more next year. It looks like you have a favorite for many indeed and very special! All of your blooms are impressive these days!!!

Ron, I tend to agree with you on the possibility these are open pollinated mixes. They were both believe it or not supposed to be Giant Konoko which was advertised as a large speckled flower. Now you know I haven`t a clue if Giant Konoko is even a real name so bear with me...me thinks I got suckered on ebay this time. ha :) I`ll go with the plan for comparison pictures just for kicks.

Thanks again for super helpful advise as usual! Karen-05

It`s funny how I do think of my roses when looking at my morning glories. I know this is off topic for the MG forum but here is a picture of my striped rose that bloomed this year late in April.

It is a nice thought to leave here this evening. bye/bye

Karen05 - the speckled Kanoko
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/94370/
has been offered by the Yamato-Noen company in Japan and has been for almost a decade...
I still have a paper copy of their MG page from 2000...
Kagerou was offered by Yamato-Noen also...

The speckled "Fuji Shibori"
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/71470/
is also a Yamato-Noen offering...it is called "Fuji Shibori" in the Yamato-Noen catalog and the 'wisteria tie dye' suffix was 'attached' on by westerners in an attempt to add in a translation...

Hi Ron, Thanks for mentioning the names. I have bought 4 times from seeds advertised using these names listed from 4 different people and they all came up Not speckled. :(

Anyhow looks like this thread is winding down so here is one more for the last picture.

This one is back true second time. Now for more growing because some of the vines are sporting yellow green color so I have two different leaf colors for this one. This is pretty neat. I decided to tag and grow the yellow green and the green leaf vines seperate. It is a work in progress.
