Garden Happenings 8/23/07

Kernville, CA

I like to talk about garden stuff, so I thought I would start this thread. I'm in a hot/dry climate, with July and Aug being the severe weather months. Today I put a trash can full of pine needles on the top of the soil around the Indian Corn and Iris. And I extended the drip line to the Spaghetti Squash that I planted yesterday evening. Its 5:00 pm now, so in an hour I'll go over to the garden for more fun/work. What is happening in your garden today? Ann

I planted some fall lettuce. Also I picked about 40 ears of sweet corn this morning. This is planting #7 with one more to go. I picked 6 Juliet tomatoes and ate them. They are producing by the dozens. These are a large grape or small roma.

I pruned off excess watermelons on some plants who want to produce another crop. I have only two watermelons left to pick from the earlier first crop.

Several green peppers have turned a beautiful red and are so large and nice...from the old op California Wonder variety. Yesterday I picked some Seascape strawberries.

It has been dry here but we got a nice 3 inch rain that all soaked right in...no waste at all.
