I have a goblin plant and it has bloomed all summer. now I would like to harvest some seeds. I have waited till they are falling apart, but there seems to be two things that want to come off the flower. There is a dried up part that is ajoining a white puffy thing. which would you say is the seed? I hope this makes sense.
thanks cassie
goblin flower seeds
I would guess the seed is the dry thing , if its something like dandelion seeds, and the puffy part is just to help it fly. I'm not familiar with'goblin plant' by that name
As sallyg said, the seed is the part attached to the white fluff. Am guessing that you have the "goblin" cultivar of gallairdia which I particularly like as compact variety that does well in dry poor soil and as you noted, blooms for long time as long as deadhead. These self seed so may find "volunteers" that will show in spring. Another option if you only want a few more plants is to divide your plant in spring.
Good luck and happy gardening!
If 81302 is correct about what the "goblin flower" is, it's not going to come true from seed. You'll probably end up with flowers that have similar colors since many gaillardias have very similar colors, but many of the babies probably won't maintain the compact/dwarf growth habit.
