Nearly blank canvas - what to plant??

Fern Park, FL(Zone 9b)

This is our first home, so please excuse the yard as it is now. I just took some pictures and outlined in blue the areas that need the most help. I just don't know what type of plant or design to put here. I'm using Florida native plants as much as possible. Any design/plant suggestions, inspiration, and/or encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

I don't really have a gardening "style" right now. I just know that I want to be environmentally friendly, and I like the look of having lots of plants. Thanks in advance! :)

Another picture...these areas pretty much surround most of the house.

Passi, you don't really say much about the property. The pictures can be difficult to go by because they don't really give an accurate view of the size and shape of the whole beds. Also is it sun or shade? What type of soil? Any problems specific to certain areas? Things you want to avoid or cover up?

I know when I was starting out I went to my local home improvement store (home depot or lowes) and for about $20 a book, I got some great gardening books for my region. They had plant profiles in the back, lots of info on how to plant and plant combinations, plus (and best of all) it had many garden designs on little grids that you could replicate. It was really like 'gardening for dummies' or something because they gave pictures of what the garden would look like, planting maps or grids to go by, list of how many and each type of plant used plus alternate choices. They gave plans for many area with names like 'sunny front entrance' or 'shady slope'. There were designs in there for almost every area and shape bed for almost any situation and it also showed pictures where folks did variations on the theme. Even if you kind of like an idea but don't like some parts of it, I am sure you would certainly find ideas or inspiration in a book like that. I go back and look at mine all the time. Sometimes if I buy a new plant and don't know what to put near it, I will just look in there and see what plants they put near the same plant for an idea.

Another thing is, some of those areas look somewhat small near the foundation of the home. I would stay away from anything to big, something that has really agressive or gnarly roots or needs alot of water in those spots. I would also plant things a ways away from the house because you really don't want to put anything near the foundation that will harm it and you don't want to have it too wet around there either as water can cause damage too.
