I am looking at painted daisies at a website and the terminology is "field grown". Is this a bare root plant/ potted?
Thanks
Karen
Field Grown
The plant could still be sent either bare root or in a pot, that really has nothing to do with it being field grown. What field grown means is that they had the plant in the ground while it was growing instead of raising it in a container like many growers do.
I should add that plants like daisies would most likely not be sent to you as bare-root plants, the only case I can think of where that would happen is if your state's regulations require them to bare-root the plant before shipping it to you (this could prevent bringing soil-born organisms into your state). I know there are a couple of nurseries that can't ship to CA unless they bare-root the plants. The type of plants that you'll find often sold bare-root are things like roses and fruit trees during their dormant season.
Thanks- Do you know any places that ship this type of painted daisy in pots?
Karen
I don't grow those so don't know of a specific place, sorry. You could try looking up the plant you want in Plant Files, it'll tell you if there are any vendors in our Plant Scout database who sell it, if there's nobody in there, then you could look in Garden Watchdog for places that sell perennials, someone's bound to have them.
field grown would mean that they don't need to be hardened off as might be necessary from a greenhouse. depends more on time of year i would think
