DAILY PICS- VOL.18

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Adel: Those bucks are really pretty animals, aren't they. Do they eat up your garden?
DW: Like your little nuthatch. We have them here as well as the slightly smaller brown-headed ones. I like the squeaky noise they make.
Bsharf: Good job getting the wren. I can hear one singing as I type. Very skittish tho, and I rarely can get a good shot of them.

I have no new bird pics today, but this fellow (love/hate) showed up while I was watching the birds.

Thats a pretty bird feeder Deb!

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Pelle. It was a freebie from somewhere (can't recall now). Eventually the squirrels will eat so much that they'll be too fat to get into it! (One can hope.) :)

Klamath River, CA

Debin... so far these deer haven't done much damage. Maybe it's because there is so much for them to eat in the area (apples, pears and natural deer feed). In the past at different locations I've had deer eat every thing that I tried to grow.

Those squirrels are so funny. In picture form anyway.

Is this what happens to a Blue Jay's body when it eats too much sunflower seed from the feeder? They say you are what you eat!

Very nice pics Frank!! Love the way you caught the colors on the first Grackle.

Thank you Peletory. I did not know what a fine specimen the first one was until I saw it on my computer. Getting pics of some birds is such a busy endeaver that I don't know what I have until I view it full screen. Sometimes you only have a second to get the shot. Sometimes I only get a branch. Bare branches are not as pretty. With only a turn of their head or a shake of their tail the pic is ruined.

I know what you mean! I don't know how many times I thought I'd gotten a great shot only to see a real mess on my computer screen and vice versus. :-)

Grackles at the Brevard Zoo, FL. These clever birds, steal zoo chow, then soak it in a pond, until soft enough to eat.

Beautiful pic bsharf!!

Great Grackles! :)

The usual suspects this morning. Except for this Thrasher. These are very shy for such large birds.

I just finished getting caught up with you guys over here in the BW daily threads! What great birds you've been getting all summer! Delighted to see a lot of new faces.
Since fall is on her way, I might be contributing what I can more and more.. All the butterflies will be gone soon, or in their chrysalids until spring. Plus the winter variety of birdies I get here in N TX are so worth sharing. I know of no better place and people to share those with than here! :-D
If anyone here has time or interest you can take a look back at this summers butterflies in the Gardening for Hummingbird and Butterflies in the 17 daily butterfly pages we have accumulated over there. They are all linked together at the beginning and end of each one.

Meanwhile, Its great to see you all! Pelle, you, Resin and the gang have done such a great job here! I promise to keep all of your little flycatchers and warblers well fed while they are down here, lol!

Deb
I've taken the top peice off of one of the hummer feeders for the little birds that like to drink the nectar, but cant get their beaks in the holes. Last year warbler and kinglet, just loved this.
