Hi
How do I propagate sedums from cuttings? Some people say to let it dry for a day and them put in compost and others say put it in water until it roots, which is the correct way?
Thanx
Propagating Sedums(Ice Plants)
If you are really talking about ice plant http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1928/
Go ahead and take any piece or clump or patch of it and put in the soil half covered with soil. You can even lay the pieces horizontal in the soil, as long as a piece is sticking out. Keep it moist and it should take off very easily. I throw out at least a hefty bag of it every year. It is evergreen and looks beautiful in bloom.

Oh ok we call that pig face....I don't know why....yes that one just grows like a weed....in fact it grows so well here it takes over the garden ......like a green carpet. I thought it was a fancy succulent. In fact I sarted my triffids by just laying them down across the ground and throwing the soil over some of it just to anchor the piece and off it went .:)
Hi
Thanx for all your replies I have included a pic of my sedum(not a very clear one) we call it an ice plant here in the uk it's different to the one listed as an ice plant in Dave's Garden,I suppose it depends which part of the world you live in
Anyway thanx for all your help
Regards Smurfy

I live in Australia too. Pig Face is a different type of plant, spring-flowering. Sedum Brilliant or Autum Joy are different plants, autum-flowering. They are seasonal plants sold at Bunnings stores.
thanks for the information here. I just bought 1 Sedum Autum Joy in early Autumn (March in Australia). I divided them by roots into 3 plants right away! Each part got a bit roots attached. I couldn't wait till spring time. LOL. After 1 week, they all look great and alive, even starting to blossom.
Today I am trying a few Sedum Brilliant cuttings, both stems and leaves. see what happens in 1 month's time.
HI All,
I have grown many types of Sedums over the years. A 3" cutting stuck in the soil will root without any care. Likewise for iceplants, which I also grow.
Here is a link to a thread I started regarding Sedum that may interest you.

I've also seen that referred to as Ice plant here in Virginia. So easy to propagate here it's not funny. Last spring a kitty broke off the tiniest sprig from an emerging shoot. I took it to one of the most inhospitable areas of the yard and stuck it in the ground watered it and let it be. It got rain and occasional watering's from the hose but no special treatment. By the end of the year it was thriving. And this thing was TINY! Like an inch long...max! Two little leaves if memory serves....
