Gail, those CD's are copywrited not supposed to be shared. I would not feel right doing that. Sorry. Maybe I will be able to help some other way.
Please help to verify & correct the AV pages in PF
Ok................I just thought it was like iTunes.............i pay for the songs and then as long as I am not copying for commercial use, they don't care how many times i download the same music.................I won't do it.............................. just didn't think about it seriously.
I think they are only 25 or 27 dollars and then 10 dollars a year to upload new info...............they are worth a lot more than that to me...............use it to even decide what i want to grow.........

Jill, I'm so sorry that I missed adding you to the C's on the list above. I kinda got swamped and missed it on the first round. Actually, I had it at one point, but then when I thought you were going to help RainGazer with the R's first, I removed it. Then put it back. Sorry about that, it was very confusing for a while there, but I think I have it all straight now.
Uh oh...............I didn't know that you had offered to help Rain, Critter................we are taking a rest tonight. I have emailed AVSA office about a new CD to purchase..............
She offered, but had already committed to doing the C's, and helping me would have taken her away from what she was committed to doing. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=3879127 I think next time she's on, Critter will agree that it worked out better this way. She has FC and can work on the C's, and you and I can share the load on the R's since it's such a large category.
very good.................didn't want to step on anyone's toes...............I am like you, Rain..........i think it is fun...............maybe it is because I have a very good excuse not to do any ironing or washing................for that matter, any household chores...............got work to do on DG (LOL)
At least you're working on *something*! LOL I'm enjoying working on the PF. :o)
i have justified staying on DG so many times to avoid other things......................but I am happy and busy............just taking care of my plants and playing on DG keeps me pretty busy...........I am very careful not to wear anything everyday that i have to iron (LOL)
Sorry for the delay in checking back into this discussion... folks visiting, busy day! :-)
CJ, before we started this thread I think I offered to partner with you to provide the FC information for whatever entries you're working on, and I'm still happy to do that. The "C" section isn't that large, so I'll be able to do descriptions for you on another section also. That'll leave Gail and RainGazer free to concentrate on that large "R" section. Just let me know what other letter we are doing!
Gail, I think there's some confusion in the posts above... Maybe I can clarify. Since you are adding the only registered description from First Class as a comment to the "R" entries, and then RG is checking the description and other fields separately, there is no need for you to submit any error reports.
If there is an incorrect description noted as a separate comment, just include a phrase like "official registered AVSA description" before you paste the description into the comment field. That should let people know which description is correct. I don't think admin corrects things in the comments (well, not unless somebody posts an obscene limerick in the comment field).
Joan, good idea on the list of participants... I should've put a post for that at the top of the thread, but I think it's easy enough to find. Thanks!
About the height issue... I thought both height and spacing had been removed from the AV pages, being replaced by the "Size/type" checkboxes. Maybe I just lost track of that part of the earlier discussion. ??
As for bloom colors, I'd be inclined to go along with Snowrose, that just the main color of the bloom should be listed.... that might still mean 2 colors for bicolors or maybe also heavily marked fantasy blooms, but would mean leaving out edge colors and other colors that occupy a minor percentage of the bloom.
It seems like that would make it easier for people who like pink to do a search for plants with predominantly pink blooms, rather than getting a list of every plant with even a hint of pink in the bloom (like the long list you get from FC when searching for "pink" -- includes plants where pink is seldom visible, much less dominant, because the list includes every plant with "pink" anywhere in the bloom description).
We could flip a coin... ;-)
Jill, if you want to copy and paste that post into the first post, that would be great. Then it's more visible, and you would be more capable of keeping up with it than I would.
LOL, took me so long to get all that typed with Kitten distracting me that I missed a couple of posts... Gail, you and RG have it figured out... While I'm happy to help with descriptions, I was a little daunted at the size of the "R's" and didn't want to promise I could crank through them and also take care of the "C's" in a timely fashion. If CJ wants to pick a letter with maybe 100 or so entries, I'll get right on those... and when we're through with them, the two of us can pick another letter, and so on...
Does that sound good?
It sounds like Lin might also have been looking for somebody with First Class to partner with in that way... Lin, maybe you and Jan could team up? Jannich, if you need help with FC, just Dmail me... the software has an easy way to copy the description and then paste it where you want it... Click on a cultivar name to get the description, and you'll see a button on the right side marked "copy to clipboard." Click that, and then you'll be able to paste the description wherever you like (paste is "ctrl + v" or a right click menu option from your mouse).
Rain and I have a good system going.................i have found errors already in the name of the plant..........no hybriding date provided.................we are doing fine, really.................wrong hybridizer's name..............lots of errors have been found already.................
I wish I knew how to copy and paste...............it won't allow me to do such...........I have to hand write the information and then copy to the description comment section.................
Joan, I'm happy to do that, but...
For most of next week, I'll be away and limited by a slow connection.
RainGazer, would you be willing to copy and paste the list into your post near the top of the thread and keep track of who has volunteered for which letter until I get back? Then I'll copy it and paste it into the first post, and I'll do my best to keep up with it. If that's too confusing, I'll just put it up in the top post, but I probably won't be able to update the list regularly until next Monday.
Joan, what are you talking about in where the description gets posted on the plant file page??????????? I have been putting them in the comment section.............
edited to say you all are talking about who is covering which letters..............ok...............

Gail, we may have been typing at the same time... try the suggestion I made to Jannich in my post above about using the "copy to clipboard" button on the First Class entries. You sure don't want to be copying all this by hand! :-)
I'd be happy to do that. :o) Anything to help us keep everything straight and get it done! :o)
It's okay where it is now. I can keep up with it until after the first of Sept. Then I'll be away for awhile. Perhaps you can take it then.
Gail, I think the "description" on the PF page means all the descriptive checkbox lists... that's the way PF does descriptions. It is a separate thing from putting the registered AVSA description in the comments section.
What is the quickest way to get a new AVSA CD..............I only saw updates to be downloaded and this is not my cd.........just need to buy one................I emailed them but it seems you could go somewhere on line and pay with paypal and get it done.................
edited to say that Rain is doing the left hand side..............i am check names, dates, hybridizers, etc. and descriptions...................we have a team effort going.........that seems to be working.......

Oh, Ok Joan, you can handle it til critter is back, then.
I have to LOL about all this cross-posting. Can you imagine if we were all in a room trying to talk?? LOL
Opps, I didn't see Amy's post. Go ahead and take it Amy.
It's mine! It's mine! It's yours! It's yours! ROFL *wiping tears*
I'll take it Joan. My post is a bit closer to the top, and thus easier to locate. :o)
Joan, you're a gem. RG, thanks! (I know I sorta "volunteered" you!) Whichever of you keeps track this next week, I'll happily copy it to the first post next Monday and try to keep on top of it after that.
Since we're doing a lot of other discussion on this thread, let's try to make it very clear... please use some sort of emphasis (like bold letters or a bunch of asterisks) when you post that you are definitely taking a section.
For example,
I'll take the C's
or
*******************
I'll take the C's
*******************
and please post with similar emphasis when you are done with a section.
Thanks!
I will have to (crying) email marjorie bullard and ask her the quickest way to get a new CD master list ............First Class..................taking my toys and going home..........oh, I AM home.
Gail, we're all posting and typing just about simultaneously, I think! LOL
I think the least expensive option for ordering FC is from the AVSA site, since you get a member discount there. I do recall that it took a while for me to get my copy, but I have no idea if there's a faster option.
Are you ordering an additional copy (as to send to somebody else), or do you need a new CD because your program disc is corrupted or something (and that's why you're having trouble with copy/paste)? If you have a bad disc that you need to replace, you could probably contact Joe about that and get one quickly from him.
I did just copy and paste................just didn't know how until you told me.............now it will be really easy..................Amy is trying to find me a new one...............I just joined AVSA several months ago..........when you go to the site, it only offers downloads of updates.............I want to start over with a new up to date CD.................who is Joe????????????
Jill, this thread is getting really long already. Would you be willing to condense all the pertinent information into the first post of another thread and link to this one? That way everything that's been decided upon at this point will all be in one place so anyone willing to help out won't have to wade through 3 threads.
Amy, then you could put the list in the second post until Jill gets back.
Promise I will let you all have an 'official page' where I am not gabbing...........so lots of people will help............
Joan, I'll be glad to do that -- good idea. I'm heading to bed, though, and tomorrow is busy, so the new thread might not happen until tomorrow night... I'll try for earlier, but I want to do a good job on trying to gather all the pertinent info from this thread.
Meanwhile, perhaps we can continue to sort stuff out on this thread...
For example, I still don't think we've come to a consensus about how to handle bloom color...
Should we list the dominant color only (or two, for blooms that really have two main colors, like ones with big thumbprint markings or heavy fantasy markings)? Or should all colors in the bloom be checked off, even if it's a minor color like an edge or an occasional fantasy splash?
I thought that had been hashed out to a conclusion..................
Actually, it might not be bad to have two threads, the way some co-op organizers do things... one thread will have "official" information for this effort, and that's where we'll keep track of the list of volunteers and of when each section is completed. The other thread can be for questions and answers. I'll put reciprocal links at the tops of both threads.
Gail, there was some quick hashing earlier in the evening, but I'm not sure there was a conclusion or a consensus in the posts I read... maybe that should be its own thread so we can take a quick poll in the forum? I don't want anybody coming back months later saying they disagree and had no say in the discussion, etc.
that sounds great to me as I have to gab and have fun while i am working ..................
the av forum members are not up this late tonight.............
Me too, Gail... and keeping a separate thread for organization will keep that streamlined and still give us a thread to gab! :-)
Just saw your other post... I'm not suggesting we have a late night poll, I'm suggesting you or I could put a new thread up about how to describe bloom colors for PF, and by the end of the day tomorrow we might have some additional input. (We could wait longer before trying to figure out the consensus, but I think we're all chomping at the bit to get these reviews and error reports under way.)
I do think we should have separate threads for discussion and final guidelines. A poll on the color issue would be good, too.
I think we are being very presumptuous in hijacking Snow's thread...........if a new thread needs to be started, this is her project and she is the one who brought it up and knows the most................we need to be respectful of her thread even though everyone has a right to an opinion.
Maybe tomorrow morning she can see this thead and take back her original concern and lead the way.............it is not fair or right to do it without her.............
Yep *blush* I already started working on them! I've only done a few, though, so if we need to submit error reports on those, it wouldn't be too many.
Good point about having Snowrose give more input.
I'm sorry if I took your idea and ran with it, Snowrose. I got all excited about getting it completed and having it the way it should be.
There is nothing wrong with you doing what Joan has already said to do................amy, you have never hijacked or taken over someone else's thread......................no, do it..............I just don't feel that you , Critter and me should bemaking a decision about the color thing..........not you starting new theads like Joan said.
