What I need to know is if I plant seeds in the fall to bloom next year will it work. I live in Zone 8,. so we have pretty mild winters. I know to plant bulbs in the fall, but I wondered if I could plant seeds as well.
Also, I am making compost piles, (We live in the country so I have lots of room) I just want to know what to put in there I might not know about. I put leaves, egg shells, dirt, fruit and veggie peelings, I just don't know what else to put.
Thanks so much
Can I plant seeds to bloom next year.
Hi LorraineR! I can't answer your compost question, but I'll try to give you the short answer about seed starting.
You should be able to sow in the fall any seeds for plants that are either perennials hardy to your zone, or anything that requires cold stratification to germinate.

Thank you so much. All of you here are so nice, especially taking your time to
HELP someone as ignorant of the whole thing as I am. I don't need books anymore"""
I can be your comic relief with all my silly questions, but we all need a laugh sometimes. Ha Ha
Google "163 things you can compost"
Take a look at this site about winter sowing, it's great:

Here's their germination list for zone 8

Shune & Claypa, thanks...added links to my favorites!
Calendula officianalis, poppies, pansies, johnny jump-ups. I f your go to the local nursery and look at the seeds they will probably be stocking cool season flowers right about now. Just read the back of the pack and it will have fall sowing indstructions. Have fun I love a blank canvas. I don't have much luck with direct sowing so I starts my seeds inside and then harden off and plant outside before the weather really starts to get cold.
