Is this a palm or cactus?

(Zone 5a)

Received this small "cactus" together with many other small ones. It's been replanted a few times times, but this summer, it exploded. It's now 12" and growing fast. The trunk is all covered in 1/4-1/2" thorns. It reminds me of a plant from Israel (without the thorns) I had long ago. Can someone ID?

I think it's some sort of Pachypodium--neither a cactus or a palm (although I think one of its common names is Madagascar palm). It's in the same family as things like Plumeria, Adenium, and oleander.

Yes, I believe you're right. Thank you very much. This Pachypodium lives in a sunny window in Norway.
