Eight feet of Gourd...

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

...........vines and flowers but no gourds. Is there something I should be doing to them to make the fruit grow?

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Patience. Most gourds take a lot of time.

Okay....Thanks.

Not even any blooms? If your vines are that long, it seems like you should at least have some blooms. Are you fertilizing with nitrogen? If so, you may be giving the plants too much. They need something like the fertilizer made for tomatoes to encourage fruiting.

I have blooms, big white flowers but no gourds. I think I read somewhere that the female flowers were supposed to be cut off and that the fruit grows from the male flowers or vice versa....I dont know... seems like I'm doing something wrong or missing a step because the same thing happened last year. I got three gourds out of vines that covered 20 feet of fence.

I hope you're not cutting off the female flowers!

They often take a couple of weeks to develop after the male flowers open.

I havent cut anything yet. Think I'll wait and see what it does on its own without my impatient assistance.
