Poppy seeds

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Hello,
I need help. I just bought poppy seeds online and when I opened the package the seeds looks like the one on the picture. Is it normal for us to be able to see the white part of the seeds? It seem to be crushed into tiny pieces. I'm pretty sure most of the are crushed because I find several that still looks good and looks like normal seeds but I would like a second opinion. Thank you.

All I can say is that a lady intown gave a seed, and she crushes it. She told me to just through it on the snow and it will grow! LOL So I guess we will see!

I was not, and still am not sure that crushing it is the best way, but that is what she does to all her seed.

Also I just learned that Canna seeds need to be sanded or ruffed up some how before you plant them! So who knows!

Many seeds need to be "roughed up" to help them to germinate sooner. This is called stratifing the seeds. Morning glories and Pride of Barbados are 2 that come to mind. Also okra, so maybe this is also true with poppies. I just throw poppy seeds out and they come up for me. But I am growing CA poppies. Give them all a try. Good luck!
