God has certainly blessed me in my garden this year. I am still waiting for the eggplants to ripen and for my corn to be ready, but here are what I have gotten so far. Well, this isn't all of it because I've been bringing cherry maters to neighbors and my mom but you get the idea. I pick at least a basket full every two days.
bountiful harvest
It looks like a jungle in my garden because the melon plants and maters have just gone crazy. I've given up trying to tame them. But I can't complain because I certainly am yielding quite a bit! And I've learned so much again this year about gardening! Like my little sign says in my garden....as the garden grows, so shall the gardener.
Wow! Noobie, that's impressive. I see I have a long way to go in the veggie growing department...all I have is one deck planter filled with tomatillos and one of bell peppers, which are stunted due to heat and no rain for months now. DH tried growing pole beans this year, and if the man-hours spent watering them were all counted up, each bean we eat must have cost about $10! Congratulations on your wonderful garden bounty. You have given me hope!
I have to comment also on your bounty. Yes, you were blessed, along with our efforts. Yes, it gives me hope for some day being able to grow vegetables of this quality. You done good!!!

I abslutely love a fresh tomato sandwich!!!

Thanks, Chrissy. You know, I've always wanted to visit Australia. It's very nice to meet you.
Ruby...how far is Crozet, VA from Glen Burnie, MD? :o)
Nice to meet you too! noobiegardener.......please excuse my ignorance but where do you grow your veggies?.....I am living in the market garden district about 40 mins out of Sydney.....Glen Burnie? is in what state?......I grow my stuff on the organic side....
what stuff do you plan for your Autumn garden? :)
Hi Noobie - I just checked with yahoo maps and it says that Crozet is 164 miles from Glen Burnie MD. It also said that it is about a 3 hour and 4 minute drive. So, not too far.
I am actually invited to a plant swap with another forum group here on September 8, 2007 in Frederick MD. I haven't decided whether to go there or not. I have had a lot of medical stuff going on this month and will just have to see how I am feeling before I commit to going. If you would possibly be interested in the swap, you might want to check out the Mid-Atlantic Gardeners forum.
I got together in June with some of the same folks at a different location for a plant swap. Everyone had a great day and it was lots of fun meeting some of the other Dave's members.
I was able to bring home quite a few plants that were new to me and that I had never planted before. I have had a great time watching them grow this summer.
Chrissy, Glen Burnie is in the state of Maryland which adjoins Virginia. I live in Virginia.
You ladies have a good one.
Ruby
Wow that is cool.....What sort of climate is it there...I don't understand the zones in your part of the world ....I am in a place with fierce sort of Summer heat....and cool but not usually too cold
Winter (this year was the coldest I have ever experienced)....this means we can grow a mix of borderline things ie apples and mangos....if you get the right micro pocket areas....so I have a mix of tropical and some things that need a little cold ......the Winter last year was too warm and dry for the stone fruit but we will have plenty this year.Last year due to the warm Winter ..the passionfruit and cape gooseberries fruited right through....it is a very interesting gardening experience.....what sort of climate do you garden in?
Chrissy...it can get pretty cold here in the winter but not as cold as the midwest does. I don't usually plant things in the fall because it tends to get cold pretty quickly.
Oh well I guess you can put your feet up and drool over the seed catalogues in the Winter.I still have chillies and cape gooseberries lettuce ....all the herbs....manderines ...oranges.....a lot of stuff still going on at the end of Winter...we are pretty lucky as the food grows all year around and with careful planning there is always something to bring to the table right now it is armfuls of rhubarb
for pies and crumbles etc.....Spring is starting to bust on out so here comes the busiest time of the year! thanks for sharing your garden:)
chrissy
