Can anyone tell me what the "red" plant in this photo is?
Plant ID
Hi Sheeba, it looks like an amaranth of some sort. Don't know what kind.

I'll go with amaranthus also.
I really like the plant.
Thanks for the feedback.
It'll probably reseed itself around your garden. No big deal. Life is full on unexpected surprises. Leave 'em or jerk 'em. And they dry nicely too.
Sheeba
It sort of looks like red astilbe
If you type red astilbe photo in your search engine you will see photos of different types. I tried to cut and paste a photo for you, but it won't work. Maybe copywrite issue.
No, it's some sort of Amaranth. There is a little similarity to Astilbe, but the leaves are different and the flower spikes are a different shape.
That is beautiful. Will it dry well? Do you know if it is deer resistant?
Those 'Hot Biscuits' look yummy! I might have to get some.

It looks like coral!
Thanks Grow_Jo. I did not know it came in other colors.
Another name for it is "Bleeding heart". I had one in my garden but it is gone now. Not sure if it reseeded or not.
trinity, do you mean 'Love Lies Bleeding'? That's another variety of Amaranthus...
Joanne
Yup, that's what I meant. Sorry about that.......lol.
No problem - I goofed up on the name of the big purple Amaranthus in my August 26th post above. It's FAT Spike, not Big Spike.
LOL.
