nearly everyday Dave comes up with something new

Instructions for moving the 'communities' box to the right.
Thanks AngelSong, I switched over to the right. Now everything is squished on the left. I'd like to be able to get rid of the Communities Box if possible for reasons mentioned by others.
Check out the eleventh post from the top of this thread, by Angelsong.....thanks, Angelsong, I did it, too!
I love all the hard work that gets put into this site, but... I kind of like it the other way. I moved my communities to the right and still don't care for it. Sorry Dave o:(
Maybe drop down boxes would work that way you can see a list of things without going to a new page and then back again.
I also don't like the way the community box moves along with you. It's rather distracting.
The box doesn't move anymore.
Let's live with this for a few days and see if it grows on us. :)
dave
The stalking Communities box was clever and I could see how that could be really useful if it gave a way to navigate out of the middle of a long thread for those of us with ADD or a case of "can't be bothered to read anymore" and want to go "Home". Jumping to the top would be great too but I would advise against jumping straight to the bottom without sorta requiring people to read otherwise you end up with a thread of people asking questions that were already answered.
Thanks for making the box not move!!! 0:)
The scrolling back and forth is a nuisance. Putting the stuff I don't need to see everytime I load a page on the right eliminates most of the scrolling but it still means about a fifth of the screen is wasted.
I suppose if I had a 20" new monitor the new format would be more usable.
I'm confused...I keep several windows open at once, and I keep each of them at about 60% of the width of the screen. I never have to scroll to read anything.
If I fully expand the window, I don't have to scroll then, either (but I do have a bigger monitor, so maybe that's not a fair comparison. ;o)
I never have to scroll...100% and only a 14 inch screen....or is it 17? anyways, I never have to scroll
I'm a renegade, I guess. I like the new format. I also must have a really wide screen. I can fit everything in without it being squeezed or having to scroll side to side. I love my Mac. :)
Skipping over everyone's post to say I simply changed my preferences to
have the Communities box to the right.
I don't really notice anything now.
:-) Don't mind the changes, but wondering where the wet bar is? LOL
There's a wet bar? Dave's been holding out on us! WUVIE, when you find it, let me know, okay?
I don't have problems with scrolling either, and both of the computers I use are laptops that have relatively small screens (I think 12" on my work computer and maybe 14-15" on the home one) so it's definitely not monitor size. I wonder if it has something to do with screen resolution or something instead?
I like the new format too--it may take a little time to get used to the changes, but once you're used to where everything is, the site is still very easy to navigate just like it always has been. And now there's the added bonus that Dave has lots of room to add new goodies for us!
Terry,
I wonder if those who have to scroll have their screens minimized or maybe
the font is set super big?
:-)
Just out of curiosity...are we having a Fun Random Forum thing happening? When I'm in a forum...over in the communities box, under forums...a random forum link is appearing? Its kinda cool...when I was just in the hoya forum I had a link to the Australian Gardening forum in there....
Hmm, it should actually be a link to the forum that you're in (a short cut to get back to the main forum page if you're in a thread).
Could you show me a link to a thread where it's showing the wrong link?
dave
Just noticed that. For me, the new forum is Cut Flowers and Floral.
I think this is neat, because it gives, at a glance, a chance to see what
else is out there instead of having to surf the menu. Sort of like a "Hey,
by the way, did you know we have cheesecake" option for those of us
who like variety.

Here's one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/region_ca/all/
I also checked out several other of my favorites, and in every case there was a different forum listed than the one I was in.
I don't think I've ever even been to the cut flowers forum.
:-)
Whoops. Now it is gone?
Well I guess I'm a spoilsport here... I like everything BUT the Communities thingiie on the left side...I would prefer it if everything were still on the right, and the messages back to the left...When there are over 100 posts on a thread, I DO have to scroll and its a PITA do do it now...
Dusty
As has been said several times already, there's a way to put everything to the right if you wish. Just look above your post for directions.
threegardeners, ahh the screenshot was perfect. This bug is now fixed. :)
dave
It was kinda neat to see it the way it was, though. It seemed to be relational, e.g., Jokes & Humor had Games under the Forum listing; Pets had Bird Watching. LOL!! ">)
Thank you Faeden...It's done.. however I also had read where Dave said it would no longer move...so I did not bother to try it..
Oh, I see where you got confused. There were two different issues with this box. One was moving it from right to left or vice versa, which was your question. The other issue was that Dave had fixed it so that the box would move UP and DOWN as you moved up and down the thread. He changed that, at least for now, so that it stays at the top of the thread.
I don't have the dog holding the envelope like threegardeners does. :) I love that dog, and it he's an option how do I get him?
.
OMG, how cute is that!! I didn't even notice the dog when I looked at the screen shot.
lol....that's my mail notifier....he runs up and barks when I get new mail
Ah, okay. He sure is cute.
Isn't he though? I just love him...
But how to WE get a cute little dog like that? PULEEZ tell us!
I'm getting used to it and am going to really like it...It's kind of embarrassing to see the journals, blogs and seed trading....scolding me that I haven't touched them since 2002 or so ;) but I do understand the relevance of why they go together....
lol melody! does make one feel guilty---all this great dave's stuff and not enough time to keep up with it all. :)
Thanks to those who advised on how to move the "Communities" box. Much better, I think, on the right. Dave, maybe that should be the default given the number above who don't like it on the left. As for the other changes, I've not had time to play with them, but I'm not convinced that recombining the two pages of forums to one is the best idea. I'll make a better judgement later when I've had time to use them.
Ann
I can't figure out how to add something into Favorites. It just keeps telling me I haven't added anything yet. Anyone know how?
ViolaAnn, this is the thread that explains how to add items to your favorites: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/568881/ (it's not a new feature.)
But Dave needs to take a look at it, because it doesn't seem to be working properly.
