starting Red Apple ground cover in new areas

I was wondering how do I take cuttings of the red apple that's growing around my house and starting it in other areas of my yard. Can anyone offer any advice for doing this? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you. If it matters, I live in the east county of San Diego.

I use to root it by cutting pieces and sticking the lower part in water. Then putting it in good soil and keeping evenly moist, until established.
