thanks--i just read it and will give it a try--good thing i did read it because i was trying to root in water when i should be doing so in soil!
Linda, If your Mock Orange is large enough to take a few cuttings, would you be interested in trading a few rooted cuttings? I've got butterfly bush and forsythia rooted now. Getting ready to start some Crape Myrtle, Lilac and Smoke Bush. Possibly Wisteria, if I haven't killed it! I think it takes 4-6 weeks to get roots. Let me know.

yes that would be fine but would you be ok with it not being rooted yet?
Hi planolinda, your mock orange, Philadelphus, wont root in water at all, the best way to get cuttings is in Aug/Sep take 4/6 inch unflowering shoots and put the in a sand/soil mix, keep coolish and water when needed, when rooted, plant out in a nursery bed next spring growing on till large enough to go into the garden or in take 12 inch hard wood cuttings in October/Nov and and plant into the borders till rooted and when ready, plant into the borders in spring, dont take flowering shoots for any cuttings as the plant will try to continue flowering instead of making roots, nip off any flower buds befor hand. Hope this helps. Weenel.
