What's on your mind today.
Daily Musings - page 18
Well I didn't look at the last thread but you did ask what I was thinking today LOL.
Long day here - working full days and taking care of two little ones and trying to get around to see my gardens are pretty hectic. I wouldn't trade the kids or plants LOL.
Louise, yep. I cut Shadow's hair today. What a chop job!! He was so patient. It took me hours and he looks a mess. I'll post a pic tomorrow, but I don't think the 'quality' job I did will translate. He feels a lot cooler though!
Harper
oh its such a gorgeous day today... I feel like is just wrong to be inside on a day like this!!!!
I absolutely agree Andy - the problem with DH taking a few days off is what do we eat while he's not working? It's great to have free air fare but how do we afford to exist while we're wherever we travel to?
xx, Carrie
(P.S. aiming for SLC this weekend to visit DH's gorgeous grandchildren!)
It just hit me this evening that it is getting darker earlier again. I know it creeps along after june, shorter and shorter every day, a minute here a minute there, but today was the day I really noticed we have lost a chunk of daylight. We are coming to the tail end of the list of things still to bloom here. So I agree when there is a day like today was we should enjoy it as much as possible. The cold and dark days will come all too quickly. Ah but then the plotting and planning and orderingggg fun will begin. :)
ngam, I noticed the shrinking daylight hours a few days ago. A bit depressing.
Okay, now nobody start getting depressed on me! It's still Summer, it's still beautiful, we've got the windows open still for a long time now. When it's November, I'm gonna need you all to be strong... so snap out of it!
H for Nurse Helga!
I'm fine with it Harper. It is actually a minor blessing that I come in from outside a bit earlier and work on the inside mess.
I noticed that today when I was watering the plants and got eaten by mosquitos... oh well I guess it's life.... but I am planing stuff for next year already... I want to plant some more seeds!!!can't believe it!!!!
I still have a lot of dahlias to see blooming... they better bloom!!!!
this is what I got today!!!! pretty nice hum!!!!
Very nice Kassia!
Kassia,
we have a dahlia very much like that one but I can't post a picture because I LEFT MY CAMERA IN A RENTAL CAR IN NYC! I know I'm sounding shrill but it was the best birthday present I ever got, 5-25-06 was my first digital picture and my first post w/ a picture. I'm sure they're cheaper and better now but that was my camera!
trying not to cry and damage mother board, Carrie
Kassia, I bet that's a 'Redskin' Dahlia. It's nice that you got a good pic, the odd white petal is rare.
Carrie, I hope you contacted the Cab company about the camera.
I'm posting this Sleeping Bumble bee pic around, today. It really was sleeping, oblivious to my actions. I even petted it, lol. (Did you ever pet a Bumble bee?)
Andy P
Wow, great shot Andy! You were close enough to smell the honey.
Andy,
It was a rental car, and one that wasn't working all that well, to the degree that DH explained the problems to the manager who would "Oh yes, certainly, of course" check into everything under the hood. DH went sprinting back 3 min later to get the camera (while DDs 1 & 2 and i proceeded to check-in at JFK) and it had already been rented out again! We won't be renting from Dollar again.

What a fantastic shot you got Andy. Did he feel as fuzzy as he looked?
Nice shot Andy. I think I have a picture of a bumblebee on every plant I own now.LOL Looks like somene else from MA is cutting in to pics of your dahlias ;)
Thanks everyone.
Al, I was passing by many bees trying to shoot the Hummingbird moth. This Sleeper was too tempting to pass up, lol.
If you are referring to Kassia's Dahlia, it is likely one of mine. She was a willing recipient of my extras last Spring.
Yes, I just came inside at 8 PM--doing a little "garden check" to see what the slugs were up to--and there was a new nip in the air. Yesterday was GORGEOUS--today on the Cape it rained a most gentle rain almost all day, and it was cool at about 68 degrees. I'm still pretty new at the NE gardening-thing--is this the first sign of Fall?
It's 59 here and yes it feels like fall is around the cornor.
I can't wait, it's 80 here yet.
Andy I saw your picture on the photos and was wondering if any of them were going to be like that!!!!! really pretty...
oh what a great pic of that bee.... I won't pet any... not after I was stung this year... oh brother that was painful!!!!!
Oh Andy I was thinking of you when I took this pic today... I wish I had a super camera because it does not do any justice to him... the cutest thing... almost transparent!!!!
Went down to mid 40s last night. At least the sun is back for the weekend and it is going to be a lovely day.
Andy and Kassie are getting some really nice bug shots and that morning glory is so pretty. Nice job guys!
I'm busy beta testing the new site layout for da Dave. So I'm trying to go places where I have never gone before to test out the clicks. I think the new site goes up Monday - so Dave must be working on the weekend! The biggest change is in the tabs at the top. Things have been combined on the tabs - like all the forums are on one tab instead of the gardening and non-gardening forums being listed on different tabs. It works really well - I've only sent him about 12 emails, so far. He doesn't have a lot of beta testers - so I'm trying to cover all the bases for him. But it is sooo pretty outside - I'm going to have to take a break and get out there and do something - like pull weeds! LOL
What fun! It's fun and maddening when there are big changes, and we have to figure it out as we go. I think it would be fun (like neat or cool were once upon a time) to get to fiddle around on a new version of DG and be encouraged to complain!
Just my musings...
xxx, Carrie
My daughter swore she knew just how to cook whatever it was that was growing on the vine on the lawn. We picked them when they came off easily, with no resistance. They molded with the decorative pumpkins because DD never did cook them! My question is are they sweet like a melon or savory like a squash. I guess when you cut it open you'll know.
xxx, Carrie
Nice dragonfly shot, Kassia. I think it's a Golden wing slop slapper, lol. Just kidding.
Yankee, a friend had similar pumpkins growing on his compost a few years ago. They turned almost red as they matured. He had over a dozen big ones. We used them for Halloween decorations.
You think it might be a pumpkin?
I do. Look at the way the stem attaches.
And I was hoping for squash!
Cat, what did you throw in the compost last Fall? Seeds from Hybrids can grow some strange looking crops.....
I throw everything in the compost pile - even some old chair stuffing! Oh no! There are potatoes growing in the compost, too. You don't suppose they will turn out to be -----wait for it----couch potatoes?
LOL!!!
Oh Cat!!!!!
Ha Ha Victor. Cat beat you to it!
Compost piles can be so magical - don't you think?
You may know that I'm always looking for ways to promote my photo site. I heard about Gather.com and had to check it out. Holy canoli, that site is HUGE. It takes some time to figure out, it's very different from anything I've ever visited.
I can see why Dave is upgrading to Bata, the competition is fierce out there.
Andy, I'm out of the loop it seems. Is your photo site a part of DG or the internet?
Ha, Venu. My site can't compare to DG. But Dave gave me the OK to talk about it. He knows there is no competition, lol.
It's http://DailyPics.ning.com/ ~ Quite different, on the Ning network. We are up to 82 members now.
Thanks for asking.
