I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHEN AND HOW TO TRIM MY YAUPON HOLLY SO THAT IT LOOKS LIKE A TREE INSTEAD OF A SHRUB. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
YAUPON
To prune any shrub to the extent you will need to for a shrub to grow into a tree this early on in it's life, you would be best to wait till after the growing season which will be winter/early spring, if it is a large shrub, just cut of some this year and then some more next year or you will loose too much foliage which is needed to keep the sap rising for the plant to survive such a heavy cutting away of it's life blood if you follow what I mean, when fully mature, these Hollies grow into small trees anyway but are always multi stemed and never just a single trunk, maybe you are thinking of a lollypop shaped topery shaped tree, which needs a different treatment all together, for a tree, cant see that happening before maybe 20 years as they are really shrubs, but good luck anyway. Weenel.
