Crows!! they're at my place!!! And we're hot too! I've been whinging like a 3 year old for the last three days. "I'm hot, I've got a headache, I'm drained, I'm tired, why did I decide to make tomatoe ketchup in this heat, why don't we have a pool" Get the picture? I console myself by reminding myself of what the heat is like in Las Vegas in August. The last time I was there I was 38 weeks pregnant (& obviously a little out of my mind) and it was over 100 degrees at 8.00 in the morning. Yikes!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Send my crows home...I miss them....my rant is usually "Why do I live here?" and "I need to move!"..anytime the temps go above 90. My step-dad always said my Mom and I were both okay as long as you kept us cool and not hungry. Get on the other side of that and you're in the danger zone. It must be hot everywhere. I haven't seen the news in days, but will have to catch it at 11 to see if they hopefully can tell me that the heat will be a goner tomorrow. Isn't that our norm? The weather guaranteed to change within 3 days?

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

100 degrees in the shade at our place right now. And this is a thermometer that I don't really believe is accurate. Truly feels like about 120 in the sun. once again...watering, watering, watering. I'm so glad that through the years I've planted lots and lots of trees. I think this evening I'll go out and see if I can squeeze more in and where. I know there are areas with sun that I would love to see shaded. I get a lot of ash seedlings that I put to good use. They're tough, fast and I think quite graceful.

Ramona, CA(Zone 9b)

What's this, a break??? We hit 106 at noon today and now at 3:00 we're down to a mere 93!!! Could it be a change? i hope i hope ...

So sorry to hear about your water break K. I saw some workers out in the fields near the San Luis Rey River today when the car said it was 108. How DO they do it? 'hope they have lots of water.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Was it just last week we felt fall in the air?
Ay-yi-yi!!!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

It's better here today, I was able to go outside briefly in the afternoon and not feel like I was walking into an oven! And my dog will get a nice walk tonight for the first time in a while, I'm sure that'll make him happy!

Hope all you folks down in SoCal are cooling off too!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yes, right now at just past 5:30 I can feel the change...any kind of a drop will feel good.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

It has been so hot and our power went off again for a while, they are repairing the downed utlities from the tornado. My next door neighbor took a picture of it on his cell and showed it to me today, It was what I was seeing from a panoramic view of the area, just after it hit. I saw this skinny funnel hidden in the midst of a blanket of low lying black clouds, it appeared to be lo longer on the ground and was around Edward`s Airforce Base, which was where it left to, after my town.

yesterday we went to dinner at my friend's house and saw a lightning strike and a few seconds later a brush fire started, we called on our cell to report it and got the CHP in Bishop, which is 2 or 3 hours north east of here, wierd, but anyway, they responded but shortly after we saw the fire raging pretty good, but we think they got a lid on it fast.

They say it will be like this till Tues. and then a low pressure starts to come in and temps should be near normal in a week.

I sure hope the weather gurus are right, Dawn. I was near tears today at 105 - it was 99 in the house. DH spent most of the day sleeping - it's like when he's sick, he goes into a coma until it's over. Gave our macaw an ice cube today and she was in heaven.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

That was good that your bird got some relief too.
Poor George.
the evening cooled down a lot more than it has been tonight, I can feel hope of relief. i want fall.
It was so dark tonight after the full moon last week, it seemed like the feel of Fall was in the air with it's early darkness. My leaves are still trying to change.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

My son said the thermometer outside his room hit 117 today. I don't know where the weather people get their info...channel 10 said it was 95 in Bonsall today...obviously they weren't here. I would have gone to fight the crowds at the beach, but I had to keep moving hoses..everything shriveling up. Must move, must move, must move.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Yes, I cracked up when the FoxNews weather report said a high of 89 in San Diego! Of course, a lot depends on exposure, I guess. We have little to no tree shade and we are south & west facing, so that might push our little micro-climate up a notch. We can't find an internet weather site with a station reporting anything close to the temps we get. As if Camp Pendleton is going to be accurate! lol

DH returns to work tomorrow after a long weekend - he's not as sad about that as usual!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Since the hordes had left the beaches, took a run up the coast today, glorious. Stopped for several hours at Dana Cove on the way home to let the commute traffic get way ahead and gone. Very interesting...is there such a thing as 'surfboard punting'? On boards, and what I would call punting...standing upright and paddling with long handled oar around in the marina / cove. I've missed seeing this before somehow, also racing skulls put in there...didn't know anyone was doing that there...AND there was a guy with a wolf or wolf hybrid..beautiful creature, very friendly, very mellow, and you could tell that the guy liked to draw attention to her, because he would start howling, then she would. Now I know what the howling of wolves sounds like. I'll probably never here that again. It was so wonderful there that I've not dared to think how hot it might have been here again today, so tonight my dream of fall is once again alive.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

We interrupt this program for an Emergency Weather Alert for San Diego County:
The marine layer is back.
I repeat: The marine layer is back.
There is a noticable lowering of temperatures up to 20 miles inland.
Expect a cooling to near normal temperatures within the next 24 hours.
We will now return to our regulary scheduled program.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

It cooled way down up here today, I don't think it even hit 80! It was so nice, hope it lasts but if the weather forecast's correct we'll be back in the 90's for the next few days at least.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Just got home, but all the way down the coast the marine layer had come in and we're driving with all the windows down...so cool, so fresh...and the smell of wood smoke on the beach. I don't even want to see what else died in the heat today..I've had a lot of 5 gallon salvia die in the last 3 days. I'm heartsick.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

It was at least 10 degrees cooler here today. Still too hot to work much, but the trend is in the right direction. Wahoo!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I refuse to even look at the thermometer anymore...it just makes it seem hotter.
We were going to BBQ on Monday, but the thought of deliberately creating more outdoor heat seem insane. Thank God for pizza ! (and beer, of course!)

Yesterday, it was like a ghost town around here...NO ONE was on the streets. Being the fool that I am, I worked in the garden and drank gallons of water, none of which got "recycled" if you know what I mean !

My cats have been in the bathtub for 5 days and counting.

My sister in Valencia called and said she wanted to come down to the beach where it's cooler...I said, "Don't bother...it's no cooler here" !

We are obviously taxing the local power plants, as the lights dim quite a bit.

I just went to get ice cream and there is finally a great cool breeze, and people are out all over the place, so maybe, just maybe we're seeing a drop.

Honestly Sherry,...why did you start that riot on the beach ? LOL

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

JD...we were just passing through...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
edited to add that I was just showing my son where The Pike used to be, leaned out the window and yelled "Where's all the sailors?" and the next thing i knew, things got real ugly. Don't tell them where I Iive!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Too late Sherry...I saw your mug shot in the post office!!!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I couldn't help telling my son that I kinda liked it when The Pike was there and everything was just a little seedy. I've never gone to the Aquarium...BUT 'Seniors Day' is once a year...Tuesday Sept 18.....seniors free...'seniors' being over 50. I'll be back in town again, but I'll be sneakin' in real low and quiet like...don't want no more trouble...there are plenty of towns that have my pic posted with a "do not serve' warning.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

LOL !!!

Being 52, I highly resent being considered a "senior" !

BTW...you'll love the Aquarium.
That area down there just keeps getting better all the time.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yep, it's looking great. It just amazes me to come all the way up the coast and go through so many changes and then from Seal to Long Beach and suddenly you're in the 'City'. It's not so bad when I have to remind them that I might get a senior discount for this or that...it's when they look at me and say, "Do you know you can get a senior discount?" And I don't feel a day over 75! Learn to appreciate the discounts..that's all I can do.....

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

LOL, Sherry, that happened to me a week before my birthday - when I would be eligible for the discount at Jimbo's. Heck, I thought I was going to surprise them!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I've noticed that the 'young' clerks don't usually think about seniors and discounts....it took a woman clerk older than myself at Sprouts to mention to me that they give senior discounts.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Hello, my name is Donna and I am a Senior Citizen.
I have lived a very enjoyable life and raised a lovely daughter
who has given me something special....a grandson!
Yes, I am proud to say I am a Senior Citizen.....lol

Hey guys, who forked up all the money to bring in this lovely cool weather this morning? Yippee!!! My DH and I melted all weekend and even cancelled going to a family BBQ in Tarzana on Sunday. Yikes, there was no way we were going to go from Hot to extremely Hot. My Sis in law was very understanding.

Mike, I saw the news this morning that said it was 103 deg. in Long Beach on Monday and you set a record!!! Wow, didn't think it got that hot just a few miles north of me.

There is a lovely cloud cover this morning and you could feel it coming in over night. I finally pulled the sheet over me during the night sometime. My DH and I are going down to my DD's house today in Lake Forest to watch my grandson for 2 days...sure hope it stays this cool down at her house. At least she has AC if we need it.

Stay cool everyone,
Donna

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I sleep with the bedroom doors open, fan in the door, and another fan pointed at me....I woke up this a.m. shivering! Donna, we stopped at the Round Table on 39 yesterday and had pizza and it was such a wonderful afternoon, nice breeze blowing through their doorway and I was thinking how envious I was of you having such good weather in H.B.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Donna it is suposed to be cooler in the Valley on the weekend and the marine layer back so it maybe good. I went there on Sat. and it was not near as bad as I expected.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Donna is right...it was very "tolerable" here today...an enormously welcome relief.
There was actually a breeze and it wasn't 90* in my place when I got home from work.

I could even tell I had watered yesterday !!!!

Let's not get excited too soon, though...remember, we always have that October hot spell....

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

It has been absolutely lovely today. :-)))) Who would of thunk it! Didn't even need the fans on, the cool breeze did it for us.

Oh yea Mike......those terrible Santa Ana Winds. YUK! Sucks the life out of all the plants.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Glad you guys (and gals!) are finally cooling off! It was a bit warmer up here again today--only in the 90's which normally wouldn't be that bad, but there was a fire not too far from where I live, and on top of that there's a big fire up in Plumas County and because of the way the winds are blowing, a bunch of smoke from it got blown into the East Bay, so we've got that lovely smoky haze over everything. Somehow that makes even a little bit of heat feel a lot worse!

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Sorry 'bout the smoke, Liz. Wish I could send you some of our breezes - which were heavenly today. Dropped another 10 degrees. Donna, not only did I have the sheet on last night, I just put socks on!!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

It was beautiful like that here yesterday, hopefully it'll last more than a day for you! And I think we only have one more day of the winds blowing how they are now, so the smoke should be gone in a day or two.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Makes us appreciate how good we have it when it's good. I sense we could all turn vicious if it gets real bad again.

Kaperc so did I put socks on last night but the room felt great. i can tell fall is upon us because my Fall Alergies have hit pretty hard.
