Nope. :-(
Fall
To tell truth dry winter...
I was 3 yrs old living in Fontana that every winter coming with Santa Ana Wind in Inland Empire area was desert before and not much peoples living that time... So yes it will be dry winter... Mild dry winter....
Oh, Yuck!
Hi Anna nice to see you.
Gyps, I am going to seriously need to move to an area with more rain or vacation in flood areas like Texas asap before I freak out. It has been hot and muggy too.
LOUISE!!!! Are you responsible for this weather?! I hope you're wearing shin guards......
LOL
Sherry
Dawn, yes, it is bad...but it's probably only gonna be 1 more month and then gone, right? I do think of moving for many reasons, but the water situation is a biggie. It's not gonna get better and I really don't care for succulents or cactus. I need big, green trees.the more, the better.
How is it in Missouri, Anna?
If I wanted to go somewhere for more rain, I'd head north rather than east--Seattle and Portland are both beatiful cities and since it's only about a zone or zone and a half colder than here you can probably still grow a lot of the things you like, and you won't have to deal with too much snow or nasty things like that. Plus their summers are really nice--you head to the midwest and it's just way too hot and humid (for me at least!), then there's the snow in the winter...no thanks!
Yep...the only place to be the Pacific Northwest...I love it, love it, love it.
My DBIL grew up in Leucadia and now lives in Eugene OR, which has mild weather compared to the rest of the state. He spends the whole winter inside. :-(
Just keep cruise on Gateway Arch! lol... It's so awesome I took it... (August 20 ~ ahead to home) I driving on cruise road Mother Road (Route 66) and I did stop where my family reunion that where Ronald Reagan's College in Eureka, IL... Also I stop by A. Lincoln town so resricted! (All is former President)...
We are considering the State of Oregon too. Greg's sis lives in Portland, but they get too much snow and ice storms there.
Well, at least in the Willamette Valley (Eugene, etc.) the snow doesn't last long - but it still gets coooolllllld.
Yes but they have a longer planting season thatn other places do with bad and cold winters, like Wyoming.
Go check out the McKenzie River Valley..the road down from Bend along the McKenzie to Springfield....In the fall it's the most beautiful place I've ever seen.
Dawn, I was just alluding to my incompatibility with cold. I'm a wimp! :-)
Oh ya I get it . I looked up prices a few months ago in Springfield it is real affordable, compared to other places. I looked up several places and talked to Rebeccanne too. I just think the big towns and shopping are so far apart, not much population, so it seems a little rural maybe from one affordable and nice place to another.
Plus they still pump your gas for you. :-)
The real problem is that so many of us Californians have gone there that now their prices are comparable to ours. We've had the money and desire to go to all the 'good places' and have 'upped the ante'. I can't blame people in other areas for being angry about it. Happened here long ago, natural process. You can't afford the places you want to be because somebody else with more money comes along and says he wants to be here too, and by the way, has more money to offer...so you can not any longer afford the coast of California, so you go somewhere else and do the same thing to them and they can no longer afford to be where they are and consequently go elsewhere. When we bought our second house years ago, there was a neighbor who'd wanted to buy it...an older gentleman who couldn't believe what they were asking for it and decided to wait because the price would come down. They were asking $50, 000. We bought it in a week. I think he'd still be waiting, but sure he died first.
BTW, in Oregon, as I've been told, right or wrong....you're not allowed to pump your own gas.
This is a real sticky subject for me - I understand free market and everything, but I still think it's almost criminal the way real estate has skyrocketed. Don't suppose there's anything that can be done, but it's sad that the ability to buy a modest home in a nice neighborhood has so outpaced wages. :-(
So, how is everyone staying cool? We don't have a/c, so we're using the misters and fans and I had iced coffee this morning. Thank goodness for our breeze!
Oops, we cross-posted, Sherry. Yes, that's what I was told about gas, too. Oh, and they don't have sales tax - but the property taxes are a bit high, I believe, to make up for it.
We hit a record hot temp today at 96.5. It may get hotter before it cools off. We finally had to turn on the AC. DH does NOT like the heat. He gets all cranky. What's the temp up there in nursery land?
WHO is responsible for this heat????! I'm wayaaaay past kicking...I mean, heads should roll.....You have not seeeen cranky!
I want Fall, it's 108 here!
Yikes, 108 . . . at 4 p.m? Sending lots of cool thoughts Weeg.... The heat is supposed to break on Monday. Maybe the 3-day weekend won't be lost after all.
Ah Ha! We found the point at which weegy is no longer perky about the heat! I'm losing plants. Things are just burning up. 3 5- gal salvias went belly up today. It's just absolutely unbelievable the difference between standing in the sun or the shade. It's like there's a giant magnifying glass over us.
It's been the same up here for the last few days--yesterday and today were a little better, at least I'm able to open the windows at 8 PM and have the outside air be nice enough that I don't mind it. It's been 100-105 for the last 4 days now, tomorrow looks like another hot one but then I think it's supposed to get better. Haven't lost any plants yet (knock on wood!) but I feel like I'm constantly watering my hundred or so containers that have been sitting around waiting for fall planting. My dog is the one who's feeling the worst--he's 12 and has long black fur, so when it's really hot I take him for little short walks instead of the nice long walks he's used to, and the lack of exercise makes him hyper and annoying (of course I love him anyway)!
I guess I shouldn't complain too much--it's better than last summer's heat wave where we hit 110-115 for a week and half the people in the area lost electricity!
It's now 90 at 8:25. Staying cool though.
I think it would be worth every penny I have to move 10 miles west to the coast.
I agree (except I'd have to go more than 10 miles!)...but I don't have enough pennies!
Yeah....I know, that's why I'm here to begin with. I need more pennies.
I was out shopping and DH said it hit 101 and he quit looking and spent the afternoon in the hammock with the misters. After dark he took a lantern out to the screen room and read. I drank a lot more water today and was able to cope better.
We've only had this happen twice since we moved in 4 years ago - hope it's not a trend. At least we know it will end eventually. It will, won't it?
BTW, Mom said it was 90 in Eugene the other day, but has now cooled off again. That's another thing there, if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute and it will change, so they say. lol
We just got back from Birdrock on the coast. For them, it was some kind of record heat, but its still about 10 degrees cooler than here. Even so, I could never move there. The lots are too small and there's not enough place to put plants!! I'd rather take the heat. I'll use my precious pennies for plants thank you very much...
It hit 99 while we were out. That's close to last year's top records of 100 and 105 on 2 consecutive Saturdays.

Our lab Sammy is 14. We shaved him recently and he seems to be taking the heat a little better. I can only take him walking early in the morning or at night these days. He prefers the couch anyway.
I have lost a few things in pots as well. And my little tomato seedlings are not happy. I may have to start over.
One more day, then maybe a break...
We don't have AC. I'm afraid to have it because I know I would not be able to resist turning it on. Our fans do the job quite well until we hit a spell like this. We don't use heat, either..only our woodstove and we're not very often cold enough to need to light the fire. This is all so I can justify the amount of water I use...it's a lot. I'm really afraid to see thisnext water bill.
I expect at any moment to look up and see the sky dark with locusts and the ground to start heaving....if it's still this hot tomorrow, I hope somebody just shoots me.
Yep. My brother in law just called from Spain and said it's 84 degrees - at 10:30pm. So much for that as a retirement home. The inside of our house is 91 now. The hose popped off the mister DH had going outside - but he was inside, so it flooded half the terrace and I have a splitting headache.
Still, I keep telling myself, some people have to work in this heat every day - I can let things go to rack and ruin for a while. Keeps me humble. :-(
We had such heat here that we had a tornado, a real one and were without power for 6 1/2 hours and it was so boring and miserable. It hit a mile from me orless as a crow flies.
No kidding, Dawn? Today? Yikes!
No,no...there aren't any crows flying today. I haven't seen a crow, haven't even heard a crow....where did they go? What do they know that we don't know? Are they all at the beach? Some other secret place that's cool? I kept thinking about that...people who'd be out working on a chain gang in weather like this...no choice...having to be out there, just dying in the heat, no way out..I'd make a break for it and hope that the dude with the rifle would shoot me. It's tooooo hot....I must be hallucinating..........
edited to add: I once lived in Yuma for 2 years, 104 degrees at 1:00 in the morning..... I should be able to get through this
