Group D-mail

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

To create friends list all you have to do is to go to "My Info" and choose "Manage your friends and Groups" and go from there... It's really not very hard to do....

You can still create groups, but I think Dave disabled the group email feature because of the bugs that were brought up earlier in the thread. So you can't do much with the group right now besides just create one.

Arlington, GA(Zone 8a)

Dave,I know how busy you are,but I was hoping to keep this small little request at the back of your mind,Group notes!

Ps,we love the group D-mail,Coleus Chatters are having a wonderful time with it.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

georgia, has the group option been upgraded so that you can find the group d-mail after you have replied?? If so, I'll try it again. Thanks!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I didn't even know there WAS a group thingie................

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Chele, that's because you've been out in that pool too long, living the life of Riley! LOL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Ha! The pool is a chemical eating source of cool off in between other jobs. I don't get there often enough either. grrrr

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

So, Chele, go to "My Info" and in the "Your Actions" box you should see a choice that says "Manage your friends and groups." That's how you create your friends list.. :)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I just found out about this too -- is it currently enabled, or has Dave dropped it?

Is there an easy way to use this to Dmail directions to my place to the list of people who are coming to the fall plant swap?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I think Dave disabled it because it wasn't working right.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Oh, I thought it was working too! I thought it a very good feature, so if it can work correctly, I assume it will be back soon or hope so. Patti

Group D-Mail is broken and won't be fixed for the foreseeable future.

Say it ain't so, Dave! Patti

Dave, could group dmail be revamped to allow a single "blast-out" message from one subscriber to multiple recipients (for co-ops and round-robins, roundup announcements, etc.)

It could be set up to allow either:

1) no replies. If someone needs to reply, they will need to start a new dmail back to the originator; or

2) each reply becomes a one-on-one dmail to the person who sent out the original message, not to the whole group.

I can see where there is a distinct advantage to sending out announcements and reminders for co-op deadlines, upcoming roundups, etc. en masse.

But having offline group conversations? shrug.....I dunno. I guess I'm just not seeing the value/benefit to that aspect of group dmails.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Well, we had/have fun with our group d-mails. Sometimes you want to communicate with a group of friends and you don't necessarily want the entire universe to know what you're chatting about. Be it for the planning committee for some gardening function, to discussing colors for your house, to sharing pictures of your family, the private group d-mails work great for that. And mostly, it keeps the silliness chatter down on the main forums. And Lord knows, I like to be silly at times. :)

Diann

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

YOU??? SILLY??? chuckle

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Terry, that would be tremendously helpful to me... Being able to send out directions and details about the Sept. 8 plant swap to everybody at once rather than doing all that copy and paste for multiple Dmails would be wonderful!

I do understand that permitting multiple recipients generally would be an invitation to spam and unwanted Dmail solicitations... But is there a way around that? Perhaps admin could somehow provide a gateway for organizers of DG events involving 10 or more people?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm not sure whether Dave wants to fool with group mail any longer, (in any form or fashion ;o)

But if he does, the function should already be limited to subscribers (non-subscribers can only initiate two new dmails a day), and that should effectively eliminate 99.9% of the would-be spammers.

(Those who are foolish enough to subscribe and then send out spam are inevitably reported to us. Then their message(s) are deleted and their posting privileges permanently revoked.)

I really liked the Group D-Mail function, and I hope it gets brought back.

North Augusta, ON

I don't know...the silliness is what makes the forums fun...otherwise they'd be just boring old information. I have visions of everybody segregating off the forums and playing in the group dmail and the forums getting really quiet. Which would really suck.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh, no way threegardeners!!

We may be silly, but we need everybody on the forums to be silly with!! I like the idea of using the Group D-Mail for things like Round Ups and such.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh, I really doubt that would happen. This place is way to neat and diverse for that to ever happen. Group D-mail is no different than having an Outlook distribution list and e-mailing everyone outside of Dave's. I have several of those and it hasn't slowed down my use of the forums one tiny bit. This just keeps it all in one nice little neat package inside Dave's. :)

Well, group discussions will not return (in the form of dmail, anyway...) but group blasts are probably do-able. They would be just that, though: a way to conveniently dmail a group of people instead of doing it one at a time.

A group blast would effectively create a different identical dmail for each member of the group you were blasting.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

A 'Blast' sounds good for coops and ru's and general heads up stuff to send to a group of people. Patti

The D-Mail Blast feature is finished. To use it, go to D-Mail, then click on "Compose Mail" and click on the group you want to send a dmail to. I tested it and it seems to work perfectly.

Whooo Hoooooo!!!

I love this feature!!

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Dave how to we "add members, delete members", "create groups" etc.?

I need to send a thank you to all those who sent me e-cards during my stay at the hospital and it would be much easier on me if I could do it in one message.

Thanks Dyson

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

It's in your My Info page under Manage your friends and groups. Just create a group name and then add each individual.

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Calif_Sue - Thank you Got it working very well.

Dave - Thank you for the feature. Makes easy work, of what could be, at times a difficult task.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Dave!!

I got back into town tonight and spotted this update... just in time for the fall plant swap at my place! *whew!*

You're the best!

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

I'm using the D-mail Group Blast and it's great!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Sue, can we start a Daylily group of friends? Then you can send a message to all at the same time? Is that correct? I am not very computer sauvy. How does it work?
