What did you see wierd today?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

LOL Ga_Peach,

What will they think of next? Shall we do a group order? Not!

Oh yeah, let's do a co-op! HaaHaaaHaaa

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Yup, that's where we stopped! If you can't find what you want in chrome in that shop, it's probably not available anywhere. There's a VERY large assortment of bull thingys.

What has happened to this thread? oh my!

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Bringing us back to "What did your see weird today?"......

It's just a little, tiny 'weird' that happened in my very own kitchen this morning.

My one slice of toast was starting to smoke, so I pushed the pop-up lever.....and my toast jumped from one slot to the other. I have never seen that before.

Like I said....just a little, tiny bit of weird.

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

lol

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Marie, how weird is that? Too bad you couldn't
have caught it on video tape!

:-)

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

And I'm sure that it will never happen again.

Jefferson, GA(Zone 7b)

Here's more weird. I told y'all you should come hang out with me.
At our local Zaxby's we have a chicken who lives in the parking lot. He was walking around my car tonight when I went to get in. Anyway, he's black and stays there. There is a McDonald's next door and other businesses around but he stays at Zaxby's. He perches in the trees/shrubs there at night and during the day, wanders the parking lot. Call me weird but I think it is a big hoot. He has kind of become their mascot.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Isn't that cool?

Is Zaxby's a grocery store?

:-)

Jefferson, GA(Zone 7b)

No it is a chicken place down here, like wendy's or something but they only do chicken and are a little higher end fast food. Sorry, I thought everyone had a Zaxby's.
Here's their link. Then maybe you can see why it is so funny. http://www.zaxbys.com/home.html
Kind of like a chicken at Chick-fil-a or something.

Blytheville, AR(Zone 7a)

Isn't Zaxbys a restaurant that serves chicken? He better watch out!!!

Jefferson, GA(Zone 7b)

Yeah, that is why it was so funny. Of all the places the thing could live. And with other stuff around, right near a highway exit, at the Zaxby's.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

I had a really weird experience Fri. afternoon. DH and I were on our way home after I'd had an echo/stress test. I was telling him what the doctor had said about hoping that I didn't go all the way to Cleveland Clinic for a valve repair..just to be told it won't work. At that moment my DH said, "Look at that truck!" Passing by on our left was a truck with a large decal across the back window: It Won't Work. If I believed in signs, I'd be changing plans and would be scheduling surgery locally for a valve replacement instead! Oooo ooo ooooo

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

That is wierd!
A sign that is a sign LOL.

I think maybe that chicken is maybe protesting. Did he have a sign?

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

OMG!!!!!! Just saw the bull thingy link. People really drive around with those things hanging from their bumpers? Here's a dumb question.......... -why?- I'm sure there are plenty of them here in AR also - I've just never seen them. I'm up in the NW part of the state at the moment where there is a lot of cattle. I'll have to keep an eye out for bright pink bull thingy sightings! LOL!

Thanks for the woobie info. Our 4 yr old lab has a little red stuffed dog that we got the day we brought her home. It kept her company since she was accustomed to sleeping in a pile of about 8 sibling puppies. She still has him. His name is 'Big Red Bubby'. She destroys anything else in her path but has kept Bubby all this time. She grabs him as soon as she comes in the house and drops him at the door before going back outside. She keeps him in her mouth all the time she's inside and carries him to bed with her. Oh - that reminds me! There is a lady in town who walks her dog every day - and the dogs always carries his 'Bubby' in his mouth during the walk. It's so cute!

Sure hope that chicken in the parking lot doesn't get run over. What a strange place for a chicken to hang out. Have I already shared my rooster story? (sorry if I'm repeating myself) We were recently given 3 roosters and don't have a chicken coop. We thought they were roosting in the trees but discovered a couple of days later that they were roosting in my flower baskets on the front porch railings. We are down to one rooster now and he has decided to roost in a dogwood tree. Thank goodness.......they made a real mess on the porch.

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

This has been the most interesting thread!!
This weird thing happened to my DH at work. (he works in a VERY small grocery..in our small town.)
This guy came in with a stack of books, and asked DH if he could hold them for him while he shopped for his groceries!
Now...DH is sorta like a jack of all trades there...so he couldn't just stand and hold them???
It seems the library was closed because of it being fair week (everybody closes around here for fair week!)...and they don't have a drop off either.
The guy said..I guess I'm gonna have to take them back home?!!
Welll...yeahhhh!!!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

The story about the chicken is funny. I like that.

Today we went up to Pismo Beach. That's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from here and it's all highway, so we saw a lot of trucks. I wasn't looking, but I didn't notice anything - shall we say - in questionable taste hanging from any of them. I didn't see anything weird at the beach, either. All those hundreds of people and nothing weird. Maybe that in itself is weird. Maybe I have a really high weird tolerance. Maybe I am the weird thing.

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Dang......looking for weird and couldn't find any! Now that's weird. As for the bull balls hanging off the trucks.......all I can think of is 'nasty'. My trailer hitch cover is just a simple chrome rectangle. It may be boring....but it's not in poor taste. Around here we get a lot of little mini boat propellers spinning away.....and I think they are just silly. I'm just too boring for words.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

This discussion of nothing happening reminds me of an old Monty Python skit, "The Day Nothing Happened". LOL You can listen to it at this link: http://www.wepsite.de/The%20Day%20Nothing%20Happened.htm

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

ROTFL Just what I needed this morning. I'm feeling positively normal.

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Sorry to skip out w/out letting y'all know what a woobie was. I figured if I knew everyone must know!

Ok, on the huggable urns...imagine...you're visiting an old friend who just lost their mother. You're sitting having tea, reminiscing, remembering dear ole Mom when you spot the teddy that says, "Eternal Love." You pick it up and say how sweet it was that someone gave her a teddy to remember her Mama. You set it on your lap...just as your friend begins to explain that Mama is *IN* the teddy bear...

OR...your golden retriever mistakes the huggable urn for it's woobie...

Am I the only one who can come up with about 1,000 more of these?

Ok, the cleaning lady is leaving for the day and says she washed the "Eternal Love" teddy bear because when she dusted it the dust just wouldn't quit coming out.....

(Zone 7a)

Okay. I have to chime in here. I thought I might be the only Monty Python lover left besides my brothers until I saw this thread.

One of my brothers works at a factory for making guns. He was in his work area when a guy he works with walked by with a cart. As he was going past he was yelling "Bring out yer dead!" My brother couldn't stop laughing all day.

Nothing weird (or funny) happens much to me anymore. I used to work downtown Salt Lake City and boy...did weird things happen there.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

ROTFLMBO!!! Golden Retriever mistakes huggable urn for it's woobie....good one!

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Monty Python...oh sheesh...DH makes reference to them all the time and I don't get it, I've never seen the movies. Of course, that doesn't stop him. Weirdo.

Ok, here's a strange thing for you...not totally whacky, but a little wierd...last night while watering the garden a little boy (about 10-12 yrs old) was walking by w/ his dog. I said hi to the dog, like I do to all the doggies...he came over and spent 30 minutes talking to me. I find it weird how the neighborhood kids take to me, especially since we don't have kids. Even weirder is that they seem to automatically start telling me their life story...especially the sad parts. Next thing I know this little guy is dragging me down to his Gramma's house (where he lives) to show me her garden!

To make the story a bit more strange, his Gramma went to school w/ my Mom...but it gets weirder, LOL! She knew my DH's Grandparents so well that she had special nicknames for them. How about that? She started naming off DH's Aunts and Uncles and I couldn't keep up...most of these folks had passed before we were married. She also told me that she and the little boy go and plant at the cemetery for pretty much all of DH's relatives! I was flabbergasted.

So, how weird is that?

The little guy's name is Jeff and he's supposed to stop by today, LOL! I'm hoping to make a bandanna for his dog before he gets here. It's a girl dog, her name is Mell, and she wears a blue collar. I also thought that was weird. I think they are trying to make her a boy, lol.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

How sweet! Sounds like that little boy is learning some very good lessons from his grandmother. He will grow up to be a caring, compassionat person.

Ok, we talked about trying to drown wasps earlier......this is not so weird as DUMB. I brought in an empty hummingbird feeder to wash it out and refill it. When I screwed off the bottle I found the reservoir filled with yellow jackets. Some were still alive! Instinct said RUN! but I didn't want yellow jackets loose in my house. All I could think to do was turn on the hot water and flood them. The dead ones just washed down the drain but the ones still alive kept crawling around trying to get away. (It would have been easier to wash them down the drain if there hadn't been so many dirty dishes in the sink.) I think I got them all before any flew away and hopefully, between being scalded with the hot water and drowning, they are all dead.

Keep your fingers crossed.

(Zone 7a)

Weirdness today. I was standing inside my house watching my garden when a hummingbird came to the door and peeped at me for about 2 minutes! I have no idea what she wanted! This is a hummer that visits our feeder several times a day. Maybe saying thanks?

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

kwajin, I bet she was saying thanks!!! Our hummers always come to our door to tell us.."hey..we are here..where's the grub?"

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

In NY, my hummingbird dive bombed me at the beginning of the season, to let me know to put out the feeder! Waited too long this yr, forgot to put it out. Remind me next spring! Just came back from vacation but didn't really see much weird, just the normal, regular stuff... ~ Suzi :)

Rosemont, ON(Zone 4a)

This afternoon, as my husband sat on the deck watching two hummingbirds fighting over the feeder the birds began chasing each other round and round his head, getting closer and closer, until one bird flew so close it hit my husband's nose.

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm glad I didn't have any of y'alls weird today...it sounds painful! I got pecked on the top of the head by a hummer once and it really hurt. I hope your hubby's nose is ok.

Allright, so I was the weird one today...not too surprising, huh? LOL!

I just signed up for a free trial of one of those online music services and today I was playing "The Top 100 Hits of the 80's." Ooooh, I was having fun dancing around while I was sewing. There were so many songs I hadn't heard in so long, so many I had forgotten that reminded me of old friends...I was really having a blast. DH was on his computer upstairs, so it was just me and the dogs and I'm not embarrassed to sing and dance in front of them. However, I forgot that the blinds and windows were open. *Sigh.* The neighborhood kids came skating down the sidewalk...as I was boogey-ing away...with my 80's tunes up full blast. Our sidewalk is about 8 feet from my window.

Hmm, maybe that's why they like me...they figure they can't embarrass themselves in front of me??? And, no, this isn't the first time I've gotten caught singing...but we'll save that story for another time. tee hee hee

Now to go dance some more...the blinds are closed.........

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Awwwh, go on and dance and sing. So you are having fun. Is that terrible? No reason to hide!

I have been really close to a hummingbird, one landed on my foot once while I had it up on the deck rail. But never had one hit me. That sure must not happen too often.

I have been in town a couple times and did not see anything unusual. That is odd.
We have been seeing bats at night swooping to get bugs while we sit on the deck in the evening. That is a good thing, then read in the paper where they have found several rabid bats in the area. oooooooh, that is not good.

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Ah well..the ones swooping about eating bugs are probably not the sick ones. If one hits your nose you might need to be concerned

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Good point!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

This might not seem strange to the rest of you, but I found a mallard duck feather in the yard today. I don't know why a duck would be right around here this time of year. There is a place not too far away where water accumulates when it rains, but it hasn't rained since April (that is normal) so that lake would be dried up now. Sometimes there will be ducks at Bell Canyon Creek or one of the condo complexes that have water features, but none of those are that close to here and as far as I know, we are not in the "flight path" between any such things.

I guess for most of you, the strangest thing you've seen to day is my writing that it hasn't rained here since April and that is normal.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

A duck feather would be strange.

Like when DH keep saying "Do you hear a cow?" I thought he was losing it.

Then I found tracks in the woods. Very strange.
After a sighting and a cow pie or two and many phone calls, tracked down the owner, who told us he had thought this cow drowned.

It escaped during moving to another pasture, ran a good distance to the lake and started swimming.
The owner found a boat and went on the chase and could not find the cow. Seems the critter swam all the way across the lake, came out down the road and decided to live in our woods.

Last we saw it, it headed for the heavy swamp and appeared to cross the river.

We are very rural, but the nearest cow is miles away.
That was an odd couple of days.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Too bad you didn't see the cow swimming. That would be strange. I didn't know cows could swim or would even attempt it.

Jefferson, GA(Zone 7b)

No, what would really be weird is if we took this thread and did like the old kids game where everyone mentions something and at the end you have to put it all together into a story. We could make a book or something of it and it would go something like ' the bride lady in the wedding gown picked up the duck feather, waived it over the swimming cow and relayed to him the message from the archangel gabriel.' Then we could all show the depths of our weirdness.

(Zone 7a)

How about..."The woman was making toast when it jumped out and hit the Hummingbird on the nose who hit the feeder filled with yellow jackets who flew out the window. The kids skating by saw the lady dancing and thought there were bats in her house and began looking for tracks.

"Do you hear a cow?" said one.
