Inspired by the "thought you have seen it all" thread. I was asked to start this one. I see wierd things all the time. Do you? Please share it here.
Today's wierd thing was seeing a man who bought a refrigerator at the local dept store, loading it into his ride, which was the dial-a-ride bus.
Last week was a man riding a long-horned bull along the highway complete with saddle. The horns stuck way out into the road.
I gotta start taking the camera with me when I go to town!
What did you see wierd today?
Parts, so glad you started this thread, it ought to be a real hoot!
So where is yours Wuvie?
I haven't seen anything weird yet today, but a repairman is coming to fix my dryer. The potential for weird is very high.
LOL, I am scared already!
Parts, I don't even have to leave my house to see weird.
Bwa ha ha! But when I do, I'll be sure to see it. I live in an area
where shorts, boots and a too-small top with your gut hanging down
and out for all to see are in fashion.
:-o
Would that trendy fashion statement be on the males or the females? I'm thinking more gross than weird......also thinking about that with the potential of 'repairman crack' showing up later today.
Too funny.
We once stopped at the gas station when it was below zero out. There was a guy with a snowmobile buying gas. He had his belly hanging out and it was bright red and chapped. I didn't want to look, but it was there hanging out in the cold. (morbid couriosity?)
We have strange people around here, makes life fun.
Man, I'm glad I live in California where people are normal. ;-)
Actually, I see very few strange people. Either there aren't any where I live or I'm one of them.
Well, we don't really say wierd people. We prefer to call it diverse culture. We have alot of that here.
I do have to say that I did rub my eyes and look again when seeing that big long horned bull going down the road with a guy riding it.
It is different here. I grew up 50 miles south and never saw anything like it here. First time (after moving here)taking the kids to school, I had to stop to shoo wild turkeys out of the road. They would not move. I knew I was out of the city then.
The weirdest sight around here is the elderly Caucasian gentleman who sometimes goes for a walk down the road wearing a what looks like a pink bed sheet wrapped around his body like a toga. One day I'm going to have the courage to ask him why he wears this.
Oh please do ask him and report back to us......how weird!
Oh, I completely forgot about the patriotic bride lady in town!
Much like Cparts, I can't really call this lady weird, but
quite different.
She rides a motorized wheelchair which is covered in
pinwheels and tiny flags in red, white and blue. In the
bicycle basket attached to the front of the cart are numerous
religious pamphlets.
She wears a big white full length wedding gown with long
white gloves and a hat with a veil no matter what time of the
year it is, though I typically see her in the heat of summer. Come
to think of it, I have not seen her for some time now.
It doesn't matter where she is, she has the same dress on and
talks to anyone and everyone. I'm not sure what her story is, but it
must be an interesting one.
Many people in town report having seen a man at the local McDonald's
restaurant wearing a jester hat, shaved eyebrows with a lot of makeup and a
combination of clothing that doesn't strike one as theatrical so much as
it seems there may be something else going on. It is said he has a personality
even more exciting than his attire.
I have not had the 'pleasure' of meeting such a person as of yet.
Here is my weird thing for today:
I have a favorite restaurant, where I eat lunch once a week. They are moderately busy at lunchtime, but there are usually some empty tables, so I never make a reservation. One day last month, for the first time, my DH wanted to join me for lunch at this restaurant, and when we got there, it was fully booked. Apparently, a social club had picked that day to reserve the entire restaurant. Well, the weeks went by and today my DH asked to join me for lunch again. We went to the same restaurant. We were the only customers there for the entire lunchtime. How weird is that, for the restaurant to be either fully booked or completely empty, only on the days that my DH picked to join me?
Oh WOW......life around is quite boring apparently. Yup....ya'll got some weird stuff going on in your areas.
My repair guy is here. Nothing special. Just your average middle-aged, semi-balding, average build and height and weight kinda guy. Absolutely no cleavage.
Going out to dinner with my neighbors who have guests for the week. A local bar across the lake has Taco Tuesdays. Who knows........something weird could come up.
...or something weird could show up in your food.
LOL. I should not have said that.
Ewwww......I really can't deal with 'stuff' that's not supposed to be in the food. With tacos however, it might be hard to tell.
I was just thinking about the weirdness around us. Don't we get so used to it that we no longer notice it as weird? My girlfriend came to visit from Chicago a couple of weeks ago. She points out to me that she hadn't seen another car on the road for the past 10 miles. Uh.....yeah....and by that you mean...????? (She was on a State highway, one lane in each direction, around 6 p.m.) She has just gotten much too used to big city traffic, and I'm used to not seeing many other cars on the road. Not weird to me....weird to her.
Will let you know if I can find any weirdness tonight.
Love it. The red white and blue bride, And the jester guy.
June, maybe they cleaned the place out for you, because you were turned away last time.
Marie, sorry your repairman was boring, I hope he fixed it. I thought maybe he would find something caught in it like a teddy or something (ahhhh, teddy bear, I mean)
Well, this wasn't today, but I think it might qualify as weird. When our kids were young, we took them and their cousin to NYC to see (what else?) “Cats”. I think my son was nine, his sister, seven, and my nephew, six.
On the way from the hotel to the theatre, the cabbie stopped at a red light. On the sidewalk, immediately to our right was a very large and well-muscled man. Talking to himself loudly, and gesturing wildly with one hand, pacing agitatedly around the sidewalk and small parking area. He was completely naked. It was December and a light snow had fallen an hour earlier. He was only using one hand because the other was holding a baseball cap over his, well, you know.
Okay, strange, but it was, after all, the city. The weird part was yet to come.
Two of NY’s finest pull up, get out, and approach the gentleman. He stops pacing, but continues to rant and gesture emphatically. The cops talk to him for less than a minute, walk back to their car, get in, and drive away, leaving naked man just as they had found him. The children never said a word about it and we went on to enjoy the show.
The best part is that my daughter's teacher sent home a note after they returned to school, post christmas break. She thanked me for the most entertaining "What I Did On My Winter Break" paper she had ever received in her thirty-one years of teaching.
We found out later that she shared Melissa's paper with the entire school staff. School functions were interesting, to say the least, the remainder of that year.
Edited to correct the children's ages. (some mom I am, huh? lol)

Tangie, oh my gosh, that must have been equally embarrassing as well
as hilarious. What a hoot! LOL
Nothing weird with my life this evening. Just the same old look-alike type of crowd at this decidedly down-scale, rural bar. Mostly just guys at the bar, in jeans, t-shirts, boots, caps....some with beards, some with ponytails, some with both. (Most of the gals looked pretty much like the guys, but no noticeable beards.) Most looked kind of grungy.....but it's been really hot and humid, and I suspect that many hadn't made it home from work yet. Just guys hanging-out and having beer. Just a quiet night at the Hide-a-Way Tavern. We were there for an hour. Had a beer, some tacos, and stopped for ice cream on the way home.
Oh wait......this was weird! We stopped at the local gas station/convenience store/bait shop/liquor store/etc., for the ice cream. They have the best ice cream there, and their single scoop is really about 3 generous scoops. (My favorite....the Mackinac Island Fudge.) Anyway, we were standing around outside eating our ice cream and this youngish guy, in one of the oldest, most rickety pick-ups that I've seen, goes inside for a 12-pack....gets back in the truck.....and then yells out the window to us..."Hey...ya know what's better than the Black Cherry Rum Ice Cream?" So of course I yell back; 'What?" And then he says; "Getting a big cup of the Black Cherry Rum ice cream and then taking it over to the Hide-a-Way and having them pour a generous serving of Bacardi over the top......On a Sunday morning." The Hide-a-Way is about 1.5 miles down the road, and my guess is that he's a regular. I'm still scratching my head over this because (a) he could have bought a bottle of Bacardi at the same time he was getting his ice cream, and (b) why did he specify a 'Sunday morning'? Hmmmm
This is fun.
In my neighborhood...I'm the one they look towards for weird...LOL
P
On my way to work today, I stopped at a stoplight out in the country. I noticed movement by the car ahead of me and saw probably a dozen BIG horseflies dive-bombing this white car. They were huge, and swarming around her car! One landed on my van's passenger door, right by the window, so I saw it was horseflies zooming around. Boy, am I glad my windows were closed. *yuck*
Didn't see anything weird today, but had to tell you this is a fun thread.
Will be watching for WEIRD, and will be sure to let you know.
cute story, Jan......from the mouths of babes.....
Yes, Wuvie...it was both.
And yes, Shar..or from their #2 pencils.
That is weird, Kimberley. Wonder why they were attacking the white car?
Yesterday I was taking my son to the bike shop for parts and on the way as I stopped for a light a sparrow hovered in front of my windshield and then landed on my side view mirror. It flew off after about 15 seconds of staring at us.
At the parking lot we saw a large man sitting in his mini van playing a mandolin. Now this one had my curiosity up so on the way back out of the store I went up to his window and asked him if he could play us a tune, he laughed and played a short song. I have to say he was very good and he was waiting for his wife to come out of the store next door. LOL
Gardenwife, Was the vehicle being circled by horseflies by any chance a Ford BRONCO?????
too funny, 2vernes!!!!! Or maybe a Mustang??
Got out of bed about noon today, went into the bathroom, looked in the mirror and what I saw scared the tinkle out of me. Then I realized I was looking at myself without benefit of any makeup, hair not brushed and sleepy eyes. Then I realized this is what my husband sees everyday. Gotta do something about that.
The cutest thing I have seen today, was my husband coming down our driveway in our 57 Chevy golf cart with our dog Patches riding on the seat beside him. They were just so cute. LIZ
This is great! You guys are a hoot.
I have found that flies of all type are attracted to white for some reason. Yet when walking in the woods, our choc lab gets bombarded with deer flies and DM's light blond lab gets none.
I wouldn't have gone and asked for a tune from the guy with the mandolin, I should be more brave. That was really to see.
I too am scared looking in the mirror in the morning. But the eyesight is getting worse so that softens the blow a little. A friend has one of those magnifying mirrors for makeup. Sheesh, who would want to look in one of those? Talk about scary!
When my DH passed on many years ago for financial reasons I had to sell his most treasured 'Foxy Lady' watercraft...last fall after 2 owners - older gentlemen that found the long nose of her too difficult to handle I with my 2 sons bought her back..this spring she was totally revamped..re-fibreglassed, new flooring, new rugs, upholstery all redone...back to her 'brand' new glory...
The elderly gentleman that we purchased it from could not find the registration ownership for us to transfer it into my name...bill of sale meant that I would pay approx $1,200 taxes..so off I went on a mission last Friday to change to my name..however, they had to do a file search and it would take 24hrs. - with it being a long weekend no call came in..yesterday I received the call..lo and behold, the boat had never been transferred out of my name...weird but true..so I have$$$ for spending lol...here's a photo
Betty, that's great! Is that you? Great to see you! :D
LOL about Broncos and Mustangs. I noticed a horsefly briefly light on my windshield at that intersection on my way home today. Weeeeeird. Kinda scary. LOL
Went into town yesterday and saw nothing wierd. Now that is wierd.
Okay...I have a little weirdness to report. At least, I thought it was weird, maybe I'm wrong?
Raining pretty hard last evening and the pups and I were relaxing on the porch waiting for the rest of the household to arrive home.
First, I noticed a pair of goldfinch hanging upside down on the sunflower heads, in the pouring rain, happily chowing down on ripe seed.
Then I saw one, just one, fat bumblebee working cleomes in the bed right next to the porch....no shelter, just floating along from one bloom to the next, paying no mind to the rain.
Do birds and bees usually venture out into the rain? (It had been dry all day, all month for that matter) Why were they out?
Yes they love the rain. Esp if it has been dry. That cell missed us, only got a couple drops of rain. We sure could use it.
It does make you wonder how something so small could handle those heavy hard drops of rain. You would think it would knock them out of the sky. But they don't seem to mind at all.
I've got one for you...but it's more cute than weird....and since LC2s mentioned cute I'm going to as well.
My cat Remington must have gotten into something that he's allergic to because he had been sneezing a lot. Very little, cute, multiple kitty sneezels. Any way, I was watching him rather closely to be sure that it wasn't a respiratory infection and he's sneezing away and then rubbed his paw vigorously on his nose.....and then of course licked his paw to be hygienic. He obviously had a tickle in his nose, and was trying to get it. By the way, he did this several times yesterday and.....he's left-pawed!
Hey! Left pawed is good!! LOL! I am enjoying this thread. Keeping my eye out for something weird to happen around here!
Bet he didn't think it was cute. LOL.
