Gail .... I owe someone for the cost of the seeds .... I haven't paid for them yet. And, I will reimburse Amy for the postage.
I have the one Lipstick 'Rasta' hanging out in the front of the house ... East location, so it gets filtered sun in the morning only. It seems to be doing much better than the ones under the covered deck out back. I wish I could move them all out front but I don't have the room ... I have four Hoya's hanging out front with the Lipstick and they seem to love that location too ... might just have to look see if I can somehow hang more at intervals between the ones already in that location.
Gail .... I will gladly send you some rooted cuttings of some of the ones I've got too! I love the Lipstick Plants when they bloom .... so cute!
Propagation pictures & such
You don't owe me anything for the seeds...........please just send me some lipstick rooted cuttings........mine is, for all practical purposes, dead!!!!!!!!!!!! it got rained on day after day and i did nothing to save it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the lipstick plants...............find the smallest box you can............i am finding out the smaller the box the less it costs........I mailed two boxes this morning that were small and it only totaled 7.00. That is the best that I have ever done..............just cram them in.........they will survive and i thank you sooooooooo much!!!!!!!
You got it Miss Gail ..... they will be on their way tomorrow!
I have really enjoyed the picture show, and catching up on this thread since I last posted in the afternoon! So many wonderful plants being propogated and grown! How exciting for all of you! Please keep posting your pics!
Lin... thanks for showing your sister's sunroom! Just gorgeous! I sure wish I had one!
Karen
You are welcome Karen. My Sister has a phenomenal (sp) house ... it is Huge over 8,000 sq feet. 5 Bedrooms & 5 full Baths and 2 half baths! Her Basement is so huge and she has a kitchen and bath in there too. My little house, garage and pool deck area would fit in her basement! She has the house on the market after living there eleven years. She is going to downsize to a much smaller (in her words) house - still wants 4 br & 4 baths! She only has one child who is in her Jr year of College and won't live at home again. It's just my Sister and her two dogs and two cats! Her home is really Beautiful. I'd give up half my little house just for a sun room like she has! I would have it full of plants!
thank you so much, Lin................did your cuttings live that i sent............can't remember the name of it..................they grow so big here...........something arborfolia................
Gail, please post a picture of that variegated dwarf ruellia! I am just mesmerized by that foliage! Which begonia did you lose?
Lin, you don't owe me anything for postage. I'm thrilled to have been able to help Gail and everyone else out with this. It's a wonderful opportunity for us all! :o) Thank you so much, Gail! :o)
Karen, did you ever get any germination on your Sinningia leucotricha seedlings? Here are mine today.
Gail: I will take a pic tomorrow of the Arboricola/Schefflera that you sent me. It's doing well. I have two Huge ones in my yard and a couple of different variegated ones in containers on my pool deck ... plus the one you sent me. I love them!
Amy... (or Keyring if she comes on...) Do you remember the full name of the ping you have?
I am trying to do a search on them, and I can't find one that color...
Thanks in advance...
Karen
I am still trying to wrap my mind around a 8000 sq. ft. house. My goodness my home I live in is only 700 sq.ft. about. I would give anything to have a large sun porch.
Amy... Your Sinn. Leuc. seedlings look great!!! No... I don't have a single seedling yet! :-( Still waitin' and watchin' though!
makshi... I'm with you girl! I live in a 900 sq. ft. apt, and the very idea that you could fit my entire building in her house just blows me away! Certainly, I would like more space, and I would love a greenhouse attached or a sunroom like that... but I wouldn't want to have to keep clean a house that big! LOL!!
Karen
I have been taking notes on alot of these plants. Here I thought I knew quite a bit..not...lol..they are soo many I never knew existed.
Lin,Your sisters home sounds magnificant. That sunroom alone is better looking than my entire house.
I live in a small space............just a nice front porch...........
My eldest daughter would kill me if she knew I was posting a picture of her master bath room on a public site. At least they realize that a home this large is not on their 'need' list in life................it is on the market.
This is sooooooooooooooooo bad of me to show her master bath........but they each have a closet that is bigger than my own bedroom.
There are so many jets of water coming out of the shower walls, we could have a party taking a shower in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I won't post anymore knowing that she would be furious with me.......................their yard is gorgeous because her husband is a big plant lover.............and does all the yard work himself as 'therapy'
Woah Gail..Thats one huge bathroom!! I would get lost in there! lol
hey raingazer;
i see you have a few sinningia's. would you like to do a swap as i have quite a few.let me know.
mrsbonnie
Gail what a bathroom, I would feel like I was bathing in a lobby. It's beautiful and I love the colors she decorated with. Lin I love the sunporch but I can't understand why it's not filled with plants, of course the plants she does have in it are pretty big. I'm afraid if I had something like that it would look like a virtual jungle.
I'm loving all of the pictures of everyone's plants, keep posting.
Gail .... your daughter's bathroom looks like my sister's! Their Master Suite has HIS & HER Master Bath's and HIS & HER Walk In Closet's! Can you imagine, two separate baths and two separate walk in closets? Her husband's bathroom was done in some tile they imported from either Spain or Italy .. can't remember .... but it is Gorgeous. His bathroom has a steam shower and sauna, her bathroom has a walk in shower and the huge Jacuzzi tub like your daughter has. I am so in awe when I go into her house! I like the idea of separate baths - she designed her home and had it built and said she did it with two master bath's cause her husband is a slob .... she has a housekeeper so she doesn't have to clean it herself anyway! The guest room I stayed in while at my sister's has a shower like your daughter's! No tub, but a really nice walk in shower. It just amazes me at the size of some people's homes! I sure wouldn't want to have to clean a house that large, but I guess if I could afford something like that I would be able to afford a housekeeper. LOL. Have to throw this pic in - my sister's formal dining room. She loves to cook and loves to entertain and does, a lot!
Lin, I feel like we are looking at the same house (LOL)..............my daughter entertains all the time and they have a very formal dining room although the rest of the house (excluding the living room) is very casual.........................
I shouldn't have shown part of their house..........it is your sister and she wouldn't care..........but my kids are so private and I am such a loud mouth..................they are verrrrrry private.............all of them..............I wouldn't even dare to show the other daughter's house as she is the most private person I know...............how could I be their mother??????????????
I will post just a few pictures of their yard.................he laid the patio and fountains himself.......there is not much he can't do..............and only has the weekends to do the work...........the best part about him is he lets all three kids help him and he even lets them plant the veggie garden twice a year and gather the fruits and veggies by themselves.
*************it is a good thing that Rain is such a good friend to all of us who have hi jacked her thread..............she knows we are just having fun ...................
Ok Rain......................I have stopped the thread with my yapping.............keep posting pictures, please and I won't talk (too much!!)
Oh man .... I love Jasmine! I can just smell that fragrance from here! My Sister would die if she knew I posted pic's of her house ( I'm not telling her! ) She has a lot of property but I don't really have any recent photo's of it ... here's one of her back deck with her baskets of flowers. She has a nursery do up her baskets every Spring!
Ooooops ...... Yep Gail, looks like we hijacked Amy's thread! I am so bad about that .... Sorry Amy! I get to typing like I get to talking and don't know when to shut up .... :)
Ok, I'm ready for some more of your plant pic's! Can never get enough of those!
Laughing at both of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amy is real easy going...............she will be back..................i could handle someone puttings flowers in the right pots for spring!!!
Oh no...I was off pouting because y'all shamelessly hijacked my thread and I'm all offended!!
ROFL Y'all know I'm kidding! Actually, I took a nap because I'm slap worn out. :oP
With all the pictures I've been taking lately, my batteries are pretty much dead and I can't find anymore, so let me go see if I've got anymore pictures to post. :o)
Oh and by the way, those houses are simply gorgeous!! I don't wish for one that big, because I can't keep this one clean (she says as she's on the computer rather than doing housework! LOL). But I would love to have a sunroom like that and great big closets! :o)
Hugs to all, and never worry about hijacking my threads - I love the chatter between friends and am glad everyone is comfortable just chattin' on my threads. :o)
Not a Gesneriad, but I'm going to post it anyway...Ceropegia woodii - String of Hearts. I all but killed this over the winter, and kicked it outside this spring to see if I could get it to bounce back. Bounce it did, and now it's blooming! :o) I don't know what's up with the weird bluish tint to this picture...
Streptocarpella - Not blooming, but when you compare it to what it used to look like - http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3364845 - it's gorgeous! LOL
Ooooh .... you mean when I join the Ges. Soc. they will send me a pack of seeds??? Hubby is giving me a subscription for our Anniversary tomorrow!
Love your String of Hearts .... I have a basket with some of that ..... not real pretty looking and I didn't even know they bloomed .... I Love It! Was thinking of pitching the little bit I have but now I might just have to baby it and see if it takes off!
Those square Floppy Disc Cases make Great little Terrariums for leaves! Hubby had many of those years ago and they went in the recycle bin! DRAT! Wish I had forsight back then!
Loving all your pic's Miss Amy .... keep em' coming!
Yep! They send a packet of mixed Gesneriad seeds! Just don't knock yours over like I did... I only got 5 seedlings out of the whole packet, but I was lucky to get those, with the tumble they took. You can also order seeds from the seed fund for $2 a pack. :o)
Don't pitch the Ceropegia! Just give it a little attention, though I've completely ignored mine LOL, and maybe it will take off for you! :o)
Here's the one and only seedling I've gotten from the Strep 'Vampire's Kiss' x self seeds MsC sent me. I don't know what's up with them not germinating. I sowed another cup of them a few days ago, so maybe those will have better results.
Edited because the name of the seedling was incorrect.

When I ordered Ceropegia linearis woodii variegata I had no idea they bloomed............glad you told me.............now what is the difference in this one I ordered and the one the lady at the nursery grows for 3.98 for a big full 4" pot ................she calls it String of Hearts.......maybe I should go get some from her.............no, I am wrong.........they were 2.98 each.................her leaves look bigger at the nursery................are there two different kinds????????????????
going to bed early.............get the answer in the morning.............
Hi Gail, there is a post over on the Hoyas Forum about the string of hearts plant (cereopegia woodi) by boojum that you might want to check out.
Lacewing
Gail: There are two listed in Plant Files .... I have the first one but that variegata is really gorgeous too! Is that the one you've got?
http://davesgarden.com/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=string+of+hearts+vine&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search&searcher[common]=String%20of%20Hearts
I have the variegata......................but I keep thinking about this little nursery in Taft and i think she is growing the same thing............just never made the connection.................will call her but I don't think she knows what she is growing other than they are called String of Hearts.........maybe i could take my baby variegata and see what the difference is............
Thanks Lacewing and Lin..................
now i will go to your thread, lacewing
Oh, you guys ... I am sooooo jealous!! One of these days I'm gonna have some Gessie seeds that germinate and sprout pretty little plants for me!! I AM determined!
Very pretty CJ - do you know the name of that Strep?
