I got these seeds from a woman in Japan, a few years ago. I had e-mailed her after seeing some of her pics on a website. (Sorry when my computer crashed, I lost the website, and her name) She had them labelled as 'Split White'

Nice! They look like feathered blooms.

Here's another pic

They look like the Gypsy Bride I grew last year, but are pure white.

Great job, Joseph! Mine didn't even germinate :(

Got them off of ebay from some seller.

Bummer, Beth, where did you get your seeds?

Clatskanie, OR(Zone 9b)

Gerris, those photos were outstanding, and luscious looking. Keep up the good work. This is a specie we would all like to try, especially after looking at your photos. I have 3 seeds. The question is, do you have to have 6 seeds to get three germinate and do I have the three seeds that won"t? I think you understand what I mean. Maybe someday, we will all know what to do with the seeds that didn't grow on the first try. Congratulations on your success. Frank

Thanks Karla and Karen.

Deb lovely white.

Joseph, the albivenia looks great.

Joseph - Nice on the I.albivenia

remindsme of the way I.setosa flowerbuds look as they first emerge

Be sure to check out the scent and/or fragrance on the I.albivenia and let us know what the deal is...

Joseph - How long has it taken your Ipomoea albivenia to get this far along? I started 3 seeds, but my seedlings are still less than a foot tall . . . but I think they're getting ready to take off.

Nichole, my plant is in its second year from seed. I repotted it this year and it really took off nicely afterwards, sending up several nice vines. Then, it stopped growing vine biomass and seemed to put its energy into making flowers.

Overnight, those flower buds doubled in size. They won't open until later today or tonight. I hope to get some good photos tomorrow morning.

Frank, I do not remember how many seeds I started last year but seem to recall low germination rate too. I would start all three of those seeds you have to get a plant.

Ron, I will be certain to check out fragrance, it would be way cool to have another fragrant Ipomoea species.

Thanks, everyone, more tomorrow.

Thought I'd share my gem from this morning. It is from a parent plant of the Q0663 system that carries the maple willow. None of the plants of this series that I am presently growing show the recessive, so I'll be content with the beautiful single flowers.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments about the unique duplicate flower. It is exciting to find these special nuggets every once in awhile!

momcat - I really like your feathered white purpurea.

Joseph, congrats on the albivenia! Looking forward to seeing the opened flower!

Arlan

Oh, my . . . I put all 3 of mine in the ground . . . I wonder if I should dig one up and put it in a pot, just in case . . .

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

This is supposed to be Oreheme. It's not completely open yet, but I had to leave for work.

Thumbnail by ByndeweedBeth

Nichole, it should be winter hardy where you live, don't you think?

Arlan and Beth, those are KO flowers there!!

Joseph

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Thanks Joseph. This one probably has 3 inch flowers, a bit larger than the "long named speckled reverse tube" flowers from your seed. I think it produced enough seed so I can replace the ones you so graciously provided!

Beth, I'm so glad someone got the true Oreheme! I purchased Oreheme seeds for this year as well, and got something completely different... http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/si/131632/

My intention was to take that flower color pattern and produce a reverse tube flower that had the white flower with a pink "button" in the center!

Arlan

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Arlan,
If I get seeds, I'll save some for you. I only got 3 seeds last winter...but two of them sprouted...so I am hopeful on producing seeds this summer.

Whatever you got is TOTALLY different from Oreheme! Nice though....
Beth

That purple speckled is a beauty Arlan.
Beth love the Oreheme with the pink eye.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

OH My I missed so much!! back from vaca and of course I came here first!! All the blooms are fantastic!! I missed a few of mine but hopefully I will catch up this week...

Ron in answer to your question here http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3823206
the Ma Sugata is vine now seeing some variations on the blooms.

Arlan glad to see all you beautiful blooms. I love the double one and that speckled purple one.

Just love them all. Hope to see lots of blooms this week here!!

Hi everyone! Ipomoea albivenia put on a show this evening, and here are a couple images of newly opened, lilac-vanilla (like Brugmansia flower scent) fragrant flowers. More to come!

That is definitely the most ELEGANT MG I've ever seen!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

OH Joseph it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!

Thank you so much! It is a rewarding experience to grow a plant out to flowering stage from a seed, but I never ever thought I would see flowers like these. The flowers of Ipomoea lindheimeri are faintly spice fragrant but these are wonderful Brugmansia type fragrance. I can't wait to experience the plant when more of the flowers open up to intensify the fragrance effect.

Here are a few more images. Enjoy!

Wow - amazing blooms today, all!

Edited to say that I had no idea there are fragrant MG's. How cool!

While I was photographing the flowers, I was monitoring the opening of a flower bud. Here is the flower, just moments from opening up.

And just after it opened up...look at all the pollen!

Last one for now...this is what the entire plant looks like, supported by a circular tomato cage.

Beautiful pics and flowers. I had no idea that MG did doubles. Plus all the different colors and types. Well this is the one I was waiting for. This baby really too)( over one of my window boxes and I thought I )(new what it was and I was right. This was something I grew last year and saved some seeds. Can't remember what it is just that I had some of these in both a blue and purple. Could you give me an ID please. I'll post a better pic when I get one. Oh BTW did you notice that one of the )(eys on my )(eyboard isn't wor)(ing, can you guess which one?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Holly - LOL! At least it's not the "a" key or one of those other more commonly used letters. Pretty bloom and I LOVE the variegated foliage.

I am sad that it is too late for me to start any more morning glories this year. Seeing all these pictures makes me want more!

Joanne

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Joanne, That's exactly what happened the A (ey got stuc( on. The minute I started to type all I got was AAAAAAAAAAA. I just spilled a little white wine on the (eyboard, only a drop or two. LOL So we too( the whole thing apart today and cleaned it everything pretty much wor(s except this one (ey.
