Beautiful, just beautiful!!

As a side note, my Mom, who is not interested in anything computer related, was over while I was looking at your MG pictures....she pulled up a chair and made me go back over all the threads to look at them!!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Ron, another shot this one of a seed pod w/ sepals. Hope this helps.
Emma, I put you on the list. Guess I better get out a ladder or two. Didn't see any pods that were ready for harvesting yet but I will be watching.
BTW Emma, I also thought I was mostly interested in blue and purple mg until I saw your pinks so beautiful and some of the other colors I've been seeing on these thread, have really opened my eyes.

Thanks HollyAnnS . . .

And, Thanks threegardeners
That is a great story that you shared about your mom.

BTW - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE CANADA!
Came VERY close to immigrating there a few years ago to introduce my sign that I have a patent on. Even the Senior Immigration Officer and other officials in Canada were begging me to come, but things just didn't sort out right, so here I sit growing MGs - And to think I could be living in Canada now [which would have been in the GTA] *-*

Aww..it's too bad things didn't work out for you, you would have loved it here. I consider myself to be very lucky to have been born and raised here. Except maybe for the taxes........but then even they are worth it because I know I will never have to mortgage or sell my home if ever I become ill.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh I know I would have loved it there. I have been several time to Canada and each time didn't want to come back home.
BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY
AND
GREAT PEOPLE THERE TOO. . .

Emma

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Emma, lovely pinks all but I love the light pink with the darker star.

I have a white bloom. Didn't even see this coming. These blooms on
a Sunrise Mixed. The 1st two blooms didn't fuse and the bottom one
looks like I need to pull it open. The top bloom not in the pic.
I am so happy to have a white.

What a clean white color on that flower, Jackie!

Joseph

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I dunno Emma, you might have found it kind of challenging to grow MG's here. Depending, of course, which part of our country you decided to live...
It is a great place to be from, though!!

:)

Joanne

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Joseph, they look like spun silk. First white I've had in yrs.

Blue Silk
Edited to apologize for the bad pic. I thought I had checked this one.

Thanks Jackie, and I LOVE your White . . .
VERY NICE!

I agree Joanne, but I'll betcha I would have had a HUGE Greenhouse . . . lol
We were having fun trying to decide on an area to live. One place I liked was King.
Oh well . . .
And, we are way past due for another trip to Canada.

I was only in BC one time and loved that too. I was mainly in White Rock. Rained the entire time over 10-days, so didn't get to go to Whistler.

HollyAnnS - Very good ID photos of the sepals that you posted on your 'mystery' plant here
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3823441
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3823453

I'd suggest entering your best bloom photo along with this excellent sepal view here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/HollyAnnS_1186416116_974.jpg
into the PlantFiles entry for Ipomoea hederacea here
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53528/

a definite(!) Ipomoea hederacea and a very rare(!) lavender-pink color at that..

Thanks for posting the sepal photos to enable a positive ID...

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Thank you Ron, I very much appreciate the ID and all the information, I found it all very interesting. I've never posted to plant files but will check it out and add my pics. Holly

These are All beautiful flowers in All these threads. I see the distinctive darker almost purplish looking star on the flying saucer. That is a nice looking full bloom too!

Patootie, Wonderful white bloom you got there! The blue silk is charming and mysterious at the same time with the subtle shading.

Here is a little critter I found watching me this this morning. This was another moment I knew there was something somewhere and oops...there it was right under my nose.

Oh Karen, that praying mantis is so cool. Does he do a good job of keeping bad bugs down?

Joanne

I`ll just say this critter is very well fed. :) ha!

Karen, thanks for your nice comments. We don't see as many praying
mantis and walking sticks now in this area.
Revclaus that's gorgeous

Thanks for the ID. I couldn't find my list of what I planted, and I don't recognize them the way you guys do. Thanks for the compliment, Jackie.

The praying mantis colors go perfectly with the Chocolate!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

My Rose Silk's have been darker than usual. The true color is somewhere
between the 2 different colors shown.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Emma, thanks, I didn't but if I can identify which closed bloom tomorrow,
I will tag it.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Patootie - amazing blooms! That Akatsuki no umi is stunning!!

Joanne

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi Patootie, That is cool how chocolate has different shades just like the magenta and blue flowers.

I`m working on pictures today and this morning I was checking some F2 grow outs of kikyo x youjiro and found another split petal. The petals are deeply cut on these and the white ads interest.

The next step is to collect seeds from this one and grow again.

Paul, my husband was the hand model this morning. :)

Thanks Joanne and Karen. Karen, very neat split petal bloom.
Love the color.
I am seeing some strange blooms, gotta be this horrible heat.

This bloom from no umi, has an extra petal. Wish it was really a double.
The pic after this one will show
a completely different flower, same vine.
Edited to say both this bloom and the one below were both open this am.

The completely different bloom on no umi this morning.
This, the same vine, that produced the bloom from yesterday
that looked
like polished cotton, all shiny.
This 2nd bloom a tiny 2 inches across at most..

Here is an interesting one! I found this Tuesday morning as I was leaving for a couple days. It is a double flower re-blooming inside another day old double flower...

I have read that these duplicate flowers can sometimes open an interior bud the second day, but had never seen it until now.

Now, that...is cool

Holy cow, Arlan. . .
That is incredible.

Emma

A wonder of nature, Arlan!

(Zone 7a)

Emma, these threads just keep getting better and better - your MGs of delicate shading, Holly's up-close sepal close-up, Patootie's ghostly white, Gard2005's visitor, Ron's guidance - don't mean to leave anyone or their contributions out - all the shared MGs just shimmer -

Arlen, Oh my. For anyone who hasn't yet visited Dr. Yoneda's very informative website on MGs, here's an old Japanese woodcut from there that Arlen has made come alive in many respects: http://protist.i.hosei.ac.jp/Asagao/Yoneda_DB/E/slides/slide068-079.html - 16th image

The other pages on this website are, as Ron says, quite a treat.
