Bugbane, Cohosh Help! actaea

Birmingham, MI

I have planted a new shade garden and my Bugbane leaves are blackening from the outer leaves to the inner part- Is is fungus? I have only seen this with a monkshood I had that had root rot because the soil was too thick with clay- but this is a new 50/50 raised bed- My bleeding hearts, astible, lady's mantle, coral bells are all doing GREAT- I am stumped! This corner was supposed to be the "wow" spot, instead it's the "eeeww" spot right now!

Could the plant just be going dormant? The cohosh and actea plants in my woodland area are going into decline now.

If you think it is like root rot and not scorch or stress from being newly planted, maybe it is something that started at the nursery and not your fault at all? They do like to be moist while being established but sitting in water would not be good either.
Is it one of the fall blooming dark leaved named varieties or is it the green leaf type that blooms earlier in the summer?
