Hi everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Lisa in Ohio - zone 5 I believe. My husband and I just bought our first house a few months ago & I'm anxious to get the landscaping in shape. The previous owners had some landscaping in place but I'm not that happy with it. Alot of the same stuff everywhere - especially lambs ear & rose of sharons. I have lots of different beds that I want to change. A few of them are mainly shade with some morning sun. The others are full sun all day long. Anyhow, if anybody out there has any plants they are going to be dividing and would like to send me for postage that would be awesome. Of course, I am always open to any and all advice as well!
Bye,
Lisa
Intro & request
Hi Lisa,
Good luck with your new gardens! I would start with some low maintainance plants for now. Your shaded areas will be perfect for hosta, which come in many varieties. I found that floral carpet roses were quite easy to maintain in my sunny areas, and they bloom for quite a while.
The most important piece of advise I can give you is to set up a watering system. My husband and I lost so many plants when we first started gardening, because we didn't have an irrigation system. It would have paid for itself by now!
I will keep you in mind when I am ready to divide or collect seeds.
Donna (Deerchaser)
Hey, neighbor! :)
I second what Donna says about watering. The dry weather this summer has been tough on the garden. The beds where I have soaker hoses in the mulch are doing much better than those I water from the top with the shower spray on the hose.
