Coleophora Laricella aka Larch Casebearer help

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

After some difficulty, I have identified what's eating my Larix pendula - the larch casebearer. I'm just thrilled as it is recovering this year from a hit by last year's gypsy moth infestation! I've found solid info on the life cycle but no mention of any treatment possibilities such as chemical insecticides. It overwinters on the host so I imagine I could always resort to a dormant oil? This is one specimine larch easily managed by a tank sprayer.

It sounds like it is pretty protected in its case overwinter. The only vulnerable period is when it is laying its eggs. At that point using a horticultural oil might destroy them, but how do you know when that is? Sometime in spring.... Spray before they lay and it is worthless. Spray after they hatch and enter the leaf and you've wasted your time. You could try, of course....
It seems you will have to rely on the beneficial species that have been introduced to take care of this problem.
I wish you much luck!!

Good input - and I'm afraid you're probably right.
