Is the Love-Lies-Bleeding an Annual bush? Meaning will it come back next year from root or reseeding?
I.E. Maybe if mulched? I was told I had to mulch my Buttefly bush if I wanted to keep it alive until next year!
Would it need to be pulled out of cut way back? I know my Dianthus and Snapdragons are supposed to be annuals but will come back, same for Rose Moss.
Here is the info link http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2/
I am just trying to plan next years additions! LOL

Love-Lies-Bleeding
It's an annual plant, not really a bush, so it just lives for one year. It does make a lot of seeds, and they sprout easily. But I don't know if the seeds that fall to the ground are likely to germinate or not - I'd save some this fall when the flower dries out and plant them in the spring.
If there's no info in Plantfiles about a plant's seed germinating, I look at this site:

Ok well thank you. I have never had one before, and before I order seed for it I thought I would ask about it.
Sorry I mis-understood, I thought you had one now, and were wondering if it would come back next year.
Someone posted a picture of a multi-colored one today in another forum, I had no idea there were so many different kinds. I grow the Amaranthus caudatus. I like it a lot, but it looks pretty plain compared to some of them!

The one I have was very easy to grow from seed, it's about six feet high right now. I sowed the seeds in a container in March.
I should have planted it back farther than I did, though.

I didn't have any luck with mine coming back from the seed that dropped on ground but am zone 4b so warmer zone may make a difference.
Like claypa, I started mine indoors in about March. Read that they don't like roots disturbed so I used those little peat pot type cells and just peeled that off when planted. They didn't grow much and still were very tiny when I planted them out but sure took off after that and where 5-6 feet tall by midsummer. Know can gather the seeds after they dry and use them for planting the next year because that is how person did it that gave me the seeds. If have several plants will have enough seed in fall to keep for following year and enough to supply all your friends:-)
Very pretty when planted in a grouping and end up looking like a shrub. I used 7 plants in patterned circle for center feature of a garden. Usually need staking. They do like fairly rich soil so add lots of compost, also want lots of water and fertilize through out the season with MiracleGro type fertilizer that dissolve in water.
Seed officionato friend of mine who gave me the seeds said can plant them in a pot and will bloom but will only get 1-2 feet tall.
As someone mentioned in this thread, there are quite a few cultivars of amaranthus. The Love-Lies-Bleeding one has red tassels and the stem is red right from time it pops out of the ground.
Happy Gardening.

HUMM Well that is what I needed to know! I just could not tell if it was a bush and would come back!
Now I know it will not and I can pull it and move it next year if I need to! Thanks!
I have a list of stuff I need to know about! LOL
So is the multi-colored one, a multi-colored bloom/flower or leaves?

Hi Txflower, good to hear from you again, hope all is well with you, your Love-Lies-Bleeding is really an annial, in a good season, you may get the same plant to flower again next year, but with mine, they were very weak and spindley so were got rid of as even the foliage was quite yellow, obviously being an annial, the plant had flowered it's socks of, they are real easy to grow from a packet of seeds in early spring, they are not a bush really but the one you have is multi stemmed so gives the impresion of a bush appearence. they look really good in a vase of mixed flowers if the vase is tall enough to let the tassles hang down from the top or the vase. good luck, hope you try some from a packet of seeds, by the way, all these types dont have the hanging tassles, some are short and stubby. WeeNel.
Hey WeeNel!
How are you?
Well I would love to try this plant! But I have no idea where I would but it right now! LOL
I am starting a new thread as I have questions about other plants too!
Hope someone knows about these others too! LOL
These are from seed:
Banana Ornamental (Inside plant? Maybe a bad idea! LOL)
Several differnt Coleus planted together (Inside plant, and moved outside in summer)
Stripa Ponytail Grass (Planted in a mixed plant pot around the edges inside)
Helitrope Iowa (To move outside in summer. It says it smells like vanilla)
Chaenarrihum (To add to a mixed pot)
Ice Plant (Does this so into the fall like Rose Moss does?)
Zinnia
Both Giant Cactus Mix and Candy Stripe (Mixed together in a planting)
Cannas (Both 2 1/2 feet tall and 4 feet tall from seed mixed together in a group, smaller infront.)
Snapdragons (From seed)
Dianthus (From seed)
Plants:
I also have some Persian Shield, and Purple Queen which I am planing on moving inside.
I also have been given some Jasmine (that the lady had planted in full shade but I am planing on putting in full sun in the corner of my yard), Iris bulbs (a mixed bad, and some she called Naked Lady not sure what they are! LOL), what I thin is grape Hyacenth bulds, Loper grass or Monkey Grass (I think she called it), Wisteria, Vinin Vinca, Day Lilies.
I also got some plants from the "save me row" at Lowe's that look like they are a grass but have Dasies growing out of the middle of them! I think it is called Gazania.
That should do it! LOL
So any tips, ideas, or comments about these would be helpfull! I have not got the seed yet so if something is a bad idea then please let me know! LOL
Thanks all!
