I have alot of moss growing on the northside of my house. I don't know why or what to do with it. It grows to about two inches tall. I noticed them when I was going to plant hostas there. I pulled them up and they keep on growing. Should I just plant the hostas and let the moss grow? or should I harvest them and use them?
Moss growning in the yard, why?
Moss can make a planting look very natural, like a damp and shady forest floor. The hostas should be able to compete with the moss, so if you like the look of it, I'd suggest you leave it be. That said, however, moss is an indicator that the soil in that spot is very wet, and if it is right against your house you might find you need to improve drainage to protect your wall and/or basement from damp.
Thanks for the advise, I never thought of that area being damp but maybe I should go a inspect it more closely.
