My red cabbage plants developed nicely but do not look like they have gotten any bigger in the past few weeks - I am still about 20 days from the 100 days the plant info said it took to maturity. Should I just let them go?
When to pick cabbage
I know cabbage don't like hot weather...I wonder if that's why they've stopped growing? Its pretty hot over here right now. Just a thought....
Kristie
Yes it has been very hot here - thanks for your thought
Unless you want them all at one time for some specific reason. you can start picking them as soon as the head is hard. When you squeeze , little to no give. That will give you an extended harvest. The days to harvest is a n estimate. Spring planted cabbage mature a lot quicker than fall planted cabage. The longer daylight hours.
Thanks for the advice, I felt the heads and they were firm. One was very well developed but the other one had much slim in it so I must have waited too long to harvest. 50% isn't bad for a first try!
