I have rejunivated an old lawn by adding grass seeds and a top feeding of compost into the existing old lawn. It has come up lovely and green! I am now worried though because this evening I watered the lawn with feed and weed before I read the instructions which state that it should not be used on newly sown lawns. My question is: What will happen to my lawn? Will the feed and weed kill the nice new green grass?
Weed and feed?
The reason they probably tell you not to use it on newly sown lawns is that the "weed" part of weed & feed often contains a pre-emergent herbicide which will prevent weed seeds from germinating. Unfortunately it would prevent grass seeds from germinating too, but it sounds like your lawn was already done germinating so that probably won't be a problem. Newly sprouted plants can also burn easier if you apply too much fertilizer, so to make sure you didn't do that you might give the lawn a good watering, that'll wash away some of the excess and minimize the chances that you put too much on.
Thanks for the info. I'll make sure and give the lawn a good watering to try and wash away the weed and feed.
