Help we took out a few rhodendrons and replaced them with hardy bananas. One of the banana trees is not doing well, the leaves are turning black. Could the old rhody be the problem. We are not sure what to do with the banana tree, it has only been a week and it was perfect in the pot when we bought it.
Hardy Banana
The rhododendron will not be the problem after just a week, however, the soil might, it could be too dry, not enough netrients added at the time you planted the Banana, as these plants like lots of moisture retaining compost around their roots and a lot of watering to keep the lush foliage rich and green, Rododendrons like an acidic soil so unless you added a whole load of manure/compost, that will be the problem, if you used the same soil for both plants, dig them up and add all the rich stuff you can before replanting them again and water as mush as you can till the roots get down into the soil, hope this helps you a bit, good luck.
