does anyone have a sure-fire way to tell if a melon is ripe?

Thanks Farmerdill for the link and info. I have 3 kinds of watermelons this year and I have one on each. lol. I now know what to look for.
Oh and on the Charentis, I read somewhere that when the leaf closest to the melon turns a light green that it is ripe.
I have never grown the Charantais so I can't help you there.
