I have several perennials planted in pots and would like to save them over the winter. What is the best way? Leave them outside? Put in the garage? Do I water them? Thanks.
saving potted perrenials over the winter
Well, if they're perennials, bury the pots in the ground for the winter. I do this with all kinds of potted perennials.
If you don't have anywhere to bury the pots, you could leave them outside, covered in leaves or sand (and snow, when you have it) for insulation, or you could put them in an unheated garage. You want the plants to stay dormant until spring, so don't give them much warmth or water. Try to avoid frequent temperature fluctuation (e.g. don't let the pots heat up in the sun and then freeze overnight).
