Any help identifying what is happening to these?

Tell me about your soil, natlaw. Do you water?
I probably don't water as much as I should. The ones that are not doing the best are in the sunnier sections?
I have clay soil.
Maybe it's a bit of sunburn then too, I think hostas like it better in the shade, especially if you have hot summers.
Definitely sun. If the weather has been unusually hot there, as it has been here in the mid 90's, you'll get some of that. I lost a couple of Arabis variegata that just fried before I caught on and rigged up some temporary shade cloth on the remaining plants. You could almost hear them sigh with relief.
