Morning Glories 2007 # 13

Mesilla Park, NM

Thanks guys,
I missed a whole thread Saturday, wow..

Joseph you had some great stuff on there, just amazing.

Emma your flowers look fantastic also, wow.

Chantell, you be careful now that you are not sucked in this big black hole and never make it back to the cactus forum...lol.. that is my story and I'm sticking to it..lol

Here's that Tanchou NOT from yesterday, I was on the phone last night and did not finish posting yesterdays flowers, hopefully I did not mess my train of thought here, getting confused seems like a normal issue to me now.

Tanchou NOT, very pretty and very consistent, from old seeds from 2004

Jackie and Syrumani
Thank you!

Chantel,
Thank You Too!
Yes, I do have a lot of area to grow MGs, but am learning I need MORE ROOM.

Antoinette,
What a show of Blooms . . . wOw!
I really like what President Bush is doing. FABULOUS!
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3795226

Your Blue Silk is off the charts.
This one is a beaut and looks similar to one I grew last year out of Burpee Sunrise Pack
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3795194

Becky. . .
This one
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3793248
is a sport of my Plum Frost that I call 'Blue Shadows'.
Hmmmm
Wonder why Mark named this one Lavender Beauty.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3795868
Unless he got some Lavender blooms as well. Mine were all a Baby Blue Color
Becky, on these two:
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3793248
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3789085
The only similarity I see is they both have a Star Pattern.
AND, they are both gorgeous!
Yours is very different -
Your leaves are not variegated and the bloom shape is also different.
Many other differences too,
SO SAD that you lost that vine. That one was a champ.

That one from the Burpee pack (Ron ID'd) It is Hama no haru, was yours from Burpee also? This one was from this years Burpee's Best Mix.

Here's another President Bush

Hopefully I did not double post this one.

Becky, I forgot to say thank you up there... next year some of mine are going to be something?? lol.. i've stuck everything but my pencil in there to get them to pollinate..lol.. so it should at least be interesting to me..

My apologizes, Emma! You are right. The only thing similar was the star pattern on our blooms. Yeah, I'm kinda bummed that vine was totaled. :-( It was marked, Lady Laura in the garden bed area it was growing in. All of those were totaled by the rodent.

I wonder if Mark named Lavender Beauty because the light blue petals and light pink throat blended together give it a light lavender color depending upon the angle you view it?

I'm impressed with the Burpee MG packs! I had no idea there were some unique seeds in those packs. What was the seed pack labeled? Mixed?

Mesilla Park, NM

It is labeled Burpees Best Mix
Becky, if you buy some, not all have I. nils in them, be sure to get only the larger seed to plant the rest are I. purpureas and this one in particular was a tan seed. so be on the look out for the tan seeds and bigger seeds,, I only found three I. nils in each pack that I bought.. and only one was tan colored. HD still has this mix here. Like Forrest Gump said about life being like a box of chocolates, same thing here with these seed companies.

NICE one, Gourd! I really, really, really, really like it! Did I tell you how much I like it? LOL! http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3796338

Next year it will be interesting for ME , too, to see what you get. Mine are all open pollination, so there is NO telling what I'll get as well. But I shall be growing more out in the Fall here. They will probably do much better in the cooler months than our hot summers in Florida.

OH MY GOSH ...... I think I am hooked on MGs! Oh no! There is not enough hours in a day for me now ...... LOL! I'm done for ..........

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks Gourd for the heads up on the Burpee Best Mix seed packs.

Your Plum Tie Dye triplets are beautiful. Love that shimmery look! :-)

hi gourd
did you pick out the bigger seeds in the burpees best mix to grow? i see theres a mixture of sizes of seed

pam

Mesilla Park, NM

Hi Pam,
yes, pick out the big brown, black or tan seeds, you can actually see the size difference. Also, if you have a magnifying glass, and you can't tell by just looking, use the magnifying glass, then you can really see it. I can't remember which company in Japan Ron said that Burpee buys their seed from, I think it is Sakata. Hopefully Ron will verify that.

A.

antoinette
thats good to know..however walmart has sent back their seeds to burpee by now
im seeing also a size of seed that is between a purpurea and a nil. what would be those?

Chantell and for those people starting out, some of the best flowers i've had are from the parks Fuji mix and their Tie Dye mixes.. and they send 20 seeds in each pack in the tie dyes.. I just got a couple of packs of all of their seeds for next years fence..lol.. it won't kill the budget.. the only trouble I had in CA with parks JPMGs and all the JPMGS, is that none produced seeds, but this year I am getting practice in pollinating and learning so that I can help in the pollination process, and get some seeds (or die trying)...

A, thanks for sending me a Drac fix. I sorely needed it. LOL I can be
very patient on the seeds.
The Burpees Best Mix is the new name for the old Sunrise Mixed from
Burpee, right? I grew 2 last yr, a hot pink and a very pale pink. (Out of Sunrise
Mixed) I didn't like
my pale pink but gathered some seeds from it late fall. The seeds I started are
coming out a dark color, no light pink. I must not have had that light pink
beauty your seed produced A, I would have loved it.

Jackie, don't forget that the seed must have been Tan color.. do you remember what color that seed was?

A, the seed I planted last yr that produced the pale pink was a tan color.
But I can't say that I gathered any tan seeds from that plant. I think they
were all dark. I have 2 pks of Sunrise Mixed seeds, so I will be sure and plant
some of the light colored seeds next spring. After seeing your gorgeous
light pink, I will probably order Burpees Best Mix too. LOL I'm going to
compare seed sizes and colors from my Sunrise Mixed. Thanks for the tip.

Jackie

jackie
the burpees best mix is a mix of i.purpureas, i nil and possibly others im not sure...you get a few seeds of i. nil as opposed to the sunrise mix which has 50 seeds of i.nils in each pack..too bad that the sunrise mix seeds were sold out when i tried to order them last year upon emma's advice. apparently someone got to them before i was able to .
in addition the picture on the burpees best mix packet depicts mostly i. nils which isnt true for the seeds inside of the one pack i had.
the burpees best mix can be found on burpee sales racks in the big box stores. I dont see them on burpees site unless i am old and blind.. they may be in the catalog?

Wow, awesome blooms Emma and everyone!!! I just wanted to peek in a sec and say I`m doing another growout of Burpees Best Mix. I snatched up some left over packs from Wal Mart some months ago. I felt like the morning glory hog but good thing though because my first grow out failed. I`m unsure why the plants failed to thrive but it could have simply been a bad spot to grow them. I probably will not plant again in that spot because I suspect the temperature may have been too hot or they suddenly took a turn for the worst despite very good normal care for some reason hard to explain. I have taken note of every spot where my plants ahve thrived so this particular grow out will go somewhere nice for sure.

Actually, the only reason I`m on DG right now is it started pouring rain so I`m inside for now. I`m working on mowing, weeding and I have to weed pots and clear out space for the fall planting still. This work seems like it will never get done.

I will join in posting results of Burpees Best mix whenever I get blooms. I got to clear space and plant soon.

Thanks Karen,

You got it!
Growing these babies IS never-ending, but such fun *-*

Emma

Antoinette,

Thank you for mentioning me in that esteemed group of MG growers. I think you should try selling some of those beauties you have growing too.

Joseph

hey karen
good to know youll be growing out the burpees best mix i.nils
looking forward to pics

pam

Mesilla Park, NM

oh no, Joseph, if you only knew half of what I have been up to!! Concrete up to my neck..lol.. making lots of stepping stones, etc.. and a couple of surprises.. it really takes up all of my time doing yardwork, tending to the veggie garden, fertilizing, the orchard, the MGs in all those pots and I also have another 100 pots of cactus around the house that need to go into the ground before fall, and I dont' know if they will make it this year, so I've got to prepare a place for them to overwinter also. I have enough on my plate and if the MG growing ever became a chore, I would absolutely hate it.

You want to trade??? lol. I can't trade Ron's seeds, but I can trade mine..
A.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Pam, Thanks. If I see a pkt next spring, I'll try one. It's no bigee.
