Hello again. How do I get this lady fern from behind my carex. The fern didn't grow when I planted it and I thought it was dead. The carex was planted 3 years ago. But now the fern has decided now is the time to make it's presence known and I would like to save it. I just noticed it yesterday. Any help?

Transplanting fern from behind another plant
You will need to dig them up together and then very carefully ease the fern away from the other plant. You may need to use scissors to trim the biggest plant roots a little to get the fern out. Good luck.
Never had much luck transplanting these kinds of ferns, they have really fiberous roots that dont like to be moved about, but pos if you can and I suspect the fern is actually growing onto the Carex rather than beside it, you could lift them both, really shake off all the soil from them, even if it means washing the soil off in a bucket, then gently pull them appart, you might be able to seperate them, the fern will need to go to a really shaded area as that is there natural growing habitat, give it planty moist cool compost till it settles in, but do this at the coolest time of day as both the plants will suffer from shock at this hot time of year, the Carex can be planted back in the same spot with lots of compost, a bit if feeding to the soil and water it as it needs it, remember, you will be taking it from the soil into the dry air and heat. good luck, WeeNel.
