I don't think it attracts bees. Bees don't intentionally bite like mosquitos do. Yes there is an attractant that you need to buy. I got mine from Sam's Club and it came with 7 of them. Can't remember how often you replace them. I place mine under a maple tree away from where we are sitting so they aren't attracted to where I am. I haven't had to empty mine yet but mosquitos are small so I don't think too often at all maybe ngam can answer those questions better.
Happy Birthday PIRL!!
Ours uses carbon dioxide to attract the biting females only. There is no scent or anything to attract bees or non biting bugs. DH says he changes the collector bag when he puts on a new propane container. It is mostly just a fine dust of desiccated mosquito bodies. Ours runs all the time as long as it is plugged in, uses low voltage. The twenty pound propane container lasts about four or five weeks. Has a indicator light to let you know if it is empty. It is positioned on the wooded side of the yard. It is called Mosquito Magnet.
Thanks for the Mosquito Magnet info. Hi Anita - how was vacation?
Awesome - I've posted some pics in #8 - you found them already..
Glorious, Anita! Just so beautiful. I'll catch up on threads tomorrow.
Hmm good thing you spoke up pirl! I was starting to wonder where you were??!!! RCMP - wink wink!!!
Weeding, watering, deadheading roses and daylilies, cutting back, helping a friend with the same, wink, wink! Time for a long nap.
Too hot for all that Pirl. You're really a gamer!
Have to start before 6 AM tomorrow. It's scheduled to be a scorcher. Not even the slightest breeze here now.
Same here pirl - today was 104F (I did the conversion for ya LOL)...it is just too hot to be outside - same weather for tomorrow too! Ick!
Watering by hand is a hard job in this weather. Even going out to set up the sprinkler in the courtyard or in the back, for the pots, is too darn hot.
I can spot one plant just shutting down and though I love it I can't face going out again.
Wow - 104 in Canada! I've been watering with my soaker hoses today. I'll be gone with the family for a few days next week so I want to make sure they are hydrated. Looks like this is the worst heatwave of the season. No relief in sight. Not my time of year. This is the Summer equivalent of mid - January to me.
So far, so good here in southwestern New Hampshire. The thermometer is spiked at about 90, but the humidity is bearable. Tomorrow though, like pirl says, will be another story.
Dawn ~ on tomorrow's date, last year, grandchild number 6 was born. The temperature on that day was 102. In order to get the newest one's brothers and sisters out of the hospital to let the new mommy, dadd and baby rest, I had to promise to take them all to the county fair. We walked around wearing ice-filled bandanas around our necks, and didn't care if our clothes got all wet!! (PS - that is not likely something I will EVER do again!!!)
hahahahahah - people are always sooooo amazed at the kinds of temperatures in Canada. Temperatures over 100 simply are not that rare - except for the Atlantic provinces and Vancouver/Victoria. In fact, you are much more likely to get temperatures over 100 in southern BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba than you would here in Springfield :-)
I love the Maritime Provinces, Seandor, as I've said a zillion times. Such ideal weather.
Dawn: hate sounding impatient here but just where are the RCMP when I need them? Do they eat donuts as our policemen have been known to do from time to time?
Candyce: that's a dedicated Grandma! I'd have thought you'd opt for an air conditioned movie theatre.
I have a hard time seeing them with the coffee for their donuts ;)
I'll learn to make the silly donuts if they'll just show up and get to work!
Love those feet and so does everyone it seems.
They remind me of Ed McMahon
Clydesdale horses remind you of Ed McMahon?
regarding the Real Cold Mashed Potatoes - they love doughnuts - but only those made by Tim Horton's
Thank you, tamberlin. What a beautiful Hibiscus - obviously you have the magic touch that I'm missing.
Oh, just saw this. Clydesdale horses = Budweiser commercials = Ed McMahon
6 degrees of Ed McMahon I guess.
To me, Budweiser commercials = Dale Earnhart, Jr.
Pirl sorry I'm soooo late I don't know how I missed this one... Hope you had a happy b-day
Candyce, Jr's my son's favorite driver...are you a fan?
I've been hauling water from the front of my house to the rear because we had a leak in our line out back and my hubby had to close off the spigot for awhile, he's finally going to fix it this week.
Thanks, Jen.
Aha! You two are in cahoots! Jen and Pirl! No wonder I'm getting teased relentlessly, mercilessly!
x, C
I haven't the foggiest idea of what you're talking about, Carrie.
lol. read al's birthday thread.
Thank you Melissa and Jax: beautiful photo!
Flowerjen:
I am, and have been, a NASCAR fan for a long, long, time - I was there when senior made his Cup debut, to give you an idea of how long ago that was!!
Junior never impressed me. Tony Stewart is a crybaby. The Busch brothers are too hell-bent-for-leather to last too long. If I do have a favorite driver it is Jeff Burton, who seems to be a gentleman - although I may revise that after today's Busch race at Watkins Glen LOL!!! My second fave would be Jeff Gordon.
But we are far from this thread's topic, aren't we? LOL!!!!!
Watkins Glen! I loved it as a child on vacations with my family. Loved jumping into that icy cold water on summer mornings!
Candyce-Unfortunately we don't have cable so we've missed so many races. My hubby is a Mark Martin fan and I don't root for anyone anymore since every time I rooted for someone they seemed to have a REALLY BAD season, maybe I'll start rooting for Jeff Gordon hee hee.
